The word came yesterday that the Star Wars spin-off movies will be origin stories. I don’t know that will be the case for all of them. Boba Fett’s origin is already laid out in the prequels and he’s one of the first names that comes up for a spin-off. Some characters I don’t really want to know their origin. I don’t want Baby Yoda. But some would be great and for the first, you’d just have to adapt James Lucerno’s Darth Plagueis novel (it’d fill in a lot of prequel holes as well).
2. Darth Maul (this would make up for a lot….a LOT, Lucasfilm!)
3. Han Solo (you could roll a lot of Lando and Chewie’s in here as well)
Honorable Mention. Sadsack Rancor Keeper (I need to know his motivation)
A Palpatine film could have a lot of Maul in it, but I agree, if Disney is smart, they’ll make a Maul film a priority. So many fences to mend.
I’d love to see a Laurel and Hardy (or Abott and Costello) inspired film about the droids. I’ve always had a soft spot for 3PO.

The more I think about it, the more I wonder why Disney is backing itself into a corner by decarling that ALL the spinoffs will be origins. I would think they’d want to keep shaking things up, to keep the franchise fresh. There is SO much material to play around with. For example, while I’m not a particular fan of the EU, I would LOVE to see a film about Mara Jade, maybe inspired by the “By the Emporer’s Hand” comics series.
Also, while I don’t want to see Baby Yoda, either, a film that chronocled his life could span close to 900 years, and THAT would be awesome.
