Killing Time – February 27, 2014

killing time

Time is a figure eight, at its center the city of Deja Vu.
                                                               ~Robert Brault

The Olympics are over, and we’ve bid farewell to Sochi.  In two and a half years we’ll reconvene in Rio for the 2016 Summer Olympics by which time Bob Costas should have bionic eye implants so as to guard against the disaster that was his pinkeye.  It was a very odd games.  To have finished with so many medals, it didn’t feel like the US team did so well and it was devastating not to come up with a medal after making the semis of the hockey tournament.  There really wasn’t a defining moment.  That being said, for all the talk of terrorism and grand disaster, the Russian people pulled it off and props to them.

Now that I’m slowly beginning to wean myself off the need to rush to my TV to check on the status of the games and Bob Costas’ ocular well-being, I’m beginning to get back to normal levels of media consumption so reviews should start back apace.  I’m just going to go ahead and warn you that this WILL happen every time there is an Olympics, but given that somehow the site traffic went up during this period, maybe it’s a good thing if I write less…nah.

Ron Howard was out 18th Latest vs. Greatest column.  If you have requests for future profiles, leave them in the comments but keep in mind that they must have done enough things that there’s a body of work to review.  So, for example, it’s a bit premature with Jennifer Lawrence.  Gary Oldman is tentatively next, fyi.

The Oscars are, of course, the next big thing on the entertainment calendar.  I’m far less interested in them this year so there hasn’t been as many articles, but later today we’ll have up the Killing Time Who Should Win, Who Will Win, and Who Really Should Have Won analysis.  We’ll see if we can match last year’s accuracy in picking (70%….call me on that if I’m wrong) winners.  Also, Monday we’ll post my annual Not-So-Live Blogging of the Show in which I essentially just Tweet into Word instead of restraining myself to 144 characters for 3 hours.

Killing Time milestones this week: The site passed 56,000 hits this week and 2,200 comments.  Greenland, I’m being extremely patient (just ask French Guiana), but I think it’s time you stop on by before I make Google think this is a Greenland protest blog.  We did have one first-time country this week and I can only assume the Cayman Islands wish to immediately fly me out to consult with me on matters of great geekish importance.  I accept.

The most viewed post of the week, to a degree that I find freakish (over 600 hits this week alone) was the Achievements/Trophies for Castlevania Lord of Shadows 2.  I loved the first game so much, but the reviews I’ve heard have been so bad I’ve been scared off.  Can a KTer give us some insight.  I know at least half of you must be playing it from these numbers
