Top 5: Movies for the Rest of Summer 2014

I don’t want to particularly bum you out, but the summer movie season is essentially over.  It’s not even officially summer yet and the studios have already blasted out pretty much everything they have for us.  The entire month of July is a barren movie wasteland that Dawn of the Planet of the Apes has to itself.  These may be MAY be our top five best chances at something cool, but since I have a Michael Bay movie on this list, I think you’ll grasp how  desperate the situation is.  What I’m saying is this:  there’s a lot of good TV out there to catch up on and books are still kept in libraries.

  1. You had me until “Transformers”. Of course, my #1 would be Richard Linklater’s “Boyhood”. However, I’ve already done anticipatory previews of your initial three. But Michael Bay, no way! ML

    1. I have an abusive relationship with him. I swear to never see anything he does again and then Prime rides Grimlock carrying a sword. It’s more a commentary on how weak the summer is than how good I think that film will be

    1. Agree with you on Edge, totally disagree on AMS2, but I’m more looking forward and there being almost nothing big scheduled the rest of the summer. The studios would have been a lot smarter to space out those May releases and let them breathe. They’d have made more money, but they seem more interested in competing over release dates for some reason.

  2. I know that Optimus Prime riding Grimlock will not make this a better movie than the previous three. But it’s Optimus Prime riding Grimlock, so my hands are tied.

    1. I’ve long compared it to an abusive relationship. Yet, I want to see a movie this weekend and there’s literally nothing out. I have a feeling I’m going to be in this pissy mood a lot of weekends this summer.
