I thought Birdman was more an achievement in directing than a great motion picture (for which Alejandro Innaritu was rewarded with an Oscar), but these days Leonardo DiCaprio is on such a roll picking roles that I’m in on this. The first trailer didn’t really reveal much about the plot, but this revenge story with DiCaprio vs. Hardy with gorgeous shots of the Old West as a backdrop, has me looking forward to seeing the full effort. Revenant opens in limited release Christmas Day and wide January 6, 2016.
Inspired by true events, THE REVENANT captures one man’s epic adventure of survival and the extraordinary power of the human spirit. In an expedition of the uncharted American wilderness, legendary explorer Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) is brutally attacked by a bear and left for dead by members of his own hunting team. In a quest to survive, Glass endures unimaginable grief as well as the betrayal of his confidant John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy). Guided by sheer will and the love of his family, Glass must navigate a vicious winter in a relentless pursuit to live and find redemption.
Wow. This is one of the best trailers I’ve ever seen. I’m not going to miss this movie. Another to add to the list.
I managed to see The Walk today, and had mixed feelings (the script and character development are really weak) that did not prevent me from being completely amazed. I’ve never heard an audience (and the theater was packed) react so much during a film. Some laughter and applause, but mostly gasps. People were jumping out of their seats. I know I’m just extrapolating from my one experience, but I think this film is going to get terrific word of mouth, and do a bit better than expected. Especially since it needs to be seem in IMAX 3D to remotley be effective.
