In Theaters This Week (4/20/2018): Super Trooper 2, I Feel Pretty, Traffik

Amy Schumer in I Feel Pretty

Each Thursday we look at what is going to be coming out in theaters this weekend, show you the trailers for the big releases, predict the box office winner and just generally give you enough of a carrot to pull you through the rest of the work week.  After two weeks of big releases, this week is the lull before the box office storm that will be Avengers: Infinity War next week.

The last weekend before the summer box office kicks off traditionally is not someplace you stick a big release, because Marvel weekend flattens anything that comes before it, driving its enemies to wrack and ruin like conquerors burning a village.  So two poorly reviewed comedies and an unscreened thriller are all the studios have thrown up this weekend.

17 years after the original, the worst Vermont State Troopers in state history return in Super Troopers 2.  The original was uneven, but hysterical in parts, both the sequel and Amy Schumer’s I Feel Pretty are in the low 30% range on Rotten Tomatoes at time of writing.  The thriller Traffik was not screened by critics, which, sing it with me (NOT A GOOOOOD SIIIIIIGN).

I Feel Pretty (Amy Schumer, Michelle Williams, PG-13, 1hr 50min)

Super Troopers 2 (Brian Cox, Paul Soter, R, 1hr 40min)

Traffik (Roselyn Sanchez, Omar Epps, R, 1hr 36min)

How Did We Do Last Week? KT picked Rampage out A Quiet Place and, for awhile, it looked like our eight month winning streak was over as A Quiet Place did huge business on Friday the 13th (get it?), but Rampage rallied to score a narrow win for the weekend $35.9 million to $33 million.  I wish a better movie had given us our 100th win all-time, but you take a win where you get it.
(2018 Prediction Record: 15-0; Lifetime prediction record 100 – 10).

Rampage

WHO WILL WIN THE WEEKEND?
A Quiet Place dropped a ridiculously low amount from its opening weekend, but I think Rampage will drop a ton from its.  With the new releases not getting much critical acclaim, I think John Krasinski and Emily Blunt’s unique horror film climbs back on top of the box office for its second win in three weeks.

  1. I just saw Super Troopers 2 tonight. Loved it. Wasn’t exactly original or creative (it’s exactly at what you expect it to be). That being said, the sequel is fun and has the same humorous as the first one was. Basically, if you liked the first one, you’ll definitely like this sequel.

  2. Amy Schumer is unfunny under normal circumstances. But if you’re aware that she’s in the habit of plagiarizing material…nope, nope, it’s impossible for her to be worse than she was before. Carry on.
