Star Wars Episode VIII Fan Made Poster Gallery

0

Star Wars fans have a long history of creating some of the best fan art and fan made posters cinema has ever seen.  Episode VII, especially, and the speculation surrounding it brought out the best in the fan community and, as much as I love the official poster, there are some fan posters that are just as good if not better.  Rogue One: A Star Wars Story too had a number of amazing fan posters created that were on par with the official banner.  Where movie posters have become a lost art, Star Wars has always had gorgeous official posters, and-since the advent of the Internet-fans have been able to share their own amazing work with the global fan community.  Episode VIII is next on the radar, and-while it is early-there are already a number of outstanding posters online.  I apologize to the artists for not being able to track down the names for most of them, and it IS early (I think the secrecy behind the plot has a lot of fan artists waiting for the first trailer to show some iconic imagery to work with), but here’s an early gallery of some of the best Episode VIII posters.

Top 5: Princess Leia Moments (Thank you, Carrie)

Princess Leia, Carrie Fisher, Return of the Jedi, Star Wars

Ask any guy who grew up with Star Wars, and we’ll admit it: we were all in love with her at some point.  She blasted Stormtroopers, piloted speeder bikes, commanded armies, and choked out a Hutt in the hottest outfit in film history.  She was the only girl action figure most of us kept around.  She was awesome, and we loved her for it, and part of us always will.  So until we’re all one with the Force, here are my five favorite Leia memories.

1. Aren’t You a Little Short to be a Stormtrooper? (A New Hope)

2. You Scruffy Looking Nerf Herder! (The Empire Strikes Back)

3. I love you.  I know. (The Empire Strikes Back)

4. Slave Leia Chokes a Hutt OUT (Return of the Jedi)

5. I Always Hated Watching You Leave (The Force Awakens)

Carrie Fisher

This was a post I was praying I was not going to have to write, but given the guarded news regarding Carrie Fisher’s condition ever since she suffered a heart attack on an airplane days ago, I think all Star Wars fans were steeling themselves for this news. 2016 has taken from us so many of the greats. It saddens me beyond words to add Fisher-Star Wars’ royalty-to that number. It’s deeply tragic on a number of levels, but to see someone who has fought all her life to keep her demons at bay, seemingly overcome them with a return to the role that made us all fall in love with her last year, only to have a resurgent life and career cut short. There’s a line from Episode VII referencing her character: “To me, she’ll always be royalty.” And to me she always will. I will be pasting below the official obituary from The New York Times, followed by a reworked paragraph I wrote when the news of her cardiac episode first broke speculating on what this means for the series (shallow and trivial as that seems compared to a life). We will get to see her as Princess Leia one last time when Star Wars Episode VIII opens in December 2017.

*UPDATE: I am saddened beyond words to have to add that 24 hours after her daughter’s death, screen legend Debbie Reynolds passed away from a stroke.  I can’t bear to do another post on this tragedy, but just as I’ll always remember Fisher trading quips with Ford on the Falcon, I’ll always remember Reynolds singing in the rain.  2016 cannot end quickly enough.

Carrie Fisher in Intensive Care After Medical Episode on Plane

Star Wars, Carrie Fisher, Stormtrooper

I was, ironically, at a screening of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story this evening when word began to move through the crowd that Carrie Fisher had been rushed to the hospital after a serious cardiac issue on an airplane.  The news we’re getting as to her condition is coming through her brother.  He initially told reporters that his sister had been treated and released, but now says he cannot comment on the exact nature of his condition.  What is clear is that Ms. Fisher has suffered a serious health crisis, and her recovery is in the hopes and prayers of all Star Wars fans.  Her co-stars took to Twitter to offer their well wishes for their friend.  Below is the latest update from The New York Times followed by the shallow, let’s face it, questions Star Wars fans have about what is the status of Episode VIII, and what will happens should, God forbid, she be unable to continue? My Favorite Scene: Star Wars Episode VII The Force Awakens (2015) “Jedi Steps”

It seems surreal that a year ago, we were all poised on a knife’s edge to see if Episode VII would be the Star Wars film we hoped it would be.  A year later, we find ourselves a little (ok a lot) more confident going into the first Star Wars spin-off film, but there’s still that tinge of nervousness that fans won’t be able to exorcise until we all see Rogue One for ourselves.  Even if it’s everything that we hope it will be, it won’t make nearly as much as The Force Awakens or be the global phenomenon that was.  The Force Awakens united a fractured Star Wars fanbase and opened a doorway for seeming infinite visits to a galaxy far, far away (which is fortunate as Disney definitely is going to give us one a year).  I lost count of how many times I’ve watched it this year before it even came to Blu Ray so picking a favorite scene is every bit as tough with this installment as it is in the other Saga films.  In the end, I chose the end.
