My Favorite Scene: Star Wars Rebels Season One (2015) “Kanan & Ezra vs. The Grand Inquisitor”

Star Wars: Rebels is over now.  The fourth and final season of the animated series aired earlier this year, and Dave Filoni & Co. are moving on to tell the stories leading up to the events of Star Wars: The Force Awakens in their next series – Star Wars: Resistance.  Rebels continued the excellence begun in The Clone Wars, and the two series were largely responsible for keeping Star Wars fandom alive in the period in-between Episodes III and VII.

One of the best innovations Rebels brought to Star Wars canon was the introduction of the Inquisitors into the lore of the Empire.  While Darth Vader spearheaded the destruction of the Jedi, it was always a little far-fetched that even Vader could have wiped out the remnants of the Order with no help.  The Inquisitors were Vader’s hand in dealing with threats to the Sith monopoly on Force dominance.  The Grand Inquisitor (voiced by Jason Isaacs) was a great first “big bad” for the series, and his final showdown with Kanan and Ezra is another stellar lightsaber duel to add to the highlight reel from Filoni’s time as Star Wars Animation Czar.Star Wars: Rebels Season One

May the Fourth Be With You! Happy Star Wars Day 2018!!!

May the Fourth Be With You, Yoda

“May the Fourth be with you!”
“And also with you!”
If you can have this exchange with someone today, this person is someone to not ignore the other 364 days of the year.  Today is, of COURSE, the greatest unofficial holiday on the calendar: Star Wars Day!  Not Cinco de Mayo eve, but a celebration of the greatest fictional universe and the state of that fictional universe is, unfortunately, a lot more precarious than it was at this time last year.  Star Wars is at a crossroads.  Though it was a financial and critical success, Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi split the fanbase in a way that it hasn’t been since Disney started managing the property.  Whether you thought what Rian Johnson with TLJ was brilliant, or-like me-you’re still kind of trying to suppress the whole experience because the more you dwell on it the more depressed you get, it was a divisive film.  My short, personal rant is that it undid nearly everything good that The Force Awakens did, ruined several characters (some irredeemably), and didn’t really accomplish a whole lot for being the longest film in the Saga.  But it’s more fun if Auralnauts’ Kylo Ren breaks down the film.

Kenobi: Awesome Tribute to Obi-Wan

Hero Fan Productions makes some fantastic videos over on YouTube, including two of my favorite Star Wars videos ever in The Chosen One and The Last.  While those videos highlighted the Skywalker clan, HFP has just released a tribute to Obi-Wan Kenobi.  Using his initial meeting with Luke in A New Hope as the pivot point, the go through Obi-Wan’s entire life as we’ve seen it thus far from Episodes I, II, and III, Star Wars: Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels (SPOILER WARNINGS IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN REBELS).

Whether or not we’re going to get a Kenobi spin-off film starring McGregor that would cover Obi-Wan’s time between Episodes III and IV seems still up in the air.  Director Stephen Daldry was attached to the project, but McGregor hadn’t been signed as of writing.  No 2020 Star Wars film has been announced, and it is unlikely that Rian Johnson or the Game of Thrones creators will be ready with their new series of films by then.  Kenobi seems to be the one spin-off most fans want, even the ones who don’t like the “Star Wars Story” concept.  McGregor certainly has campaigned for returning to the role, and I think they could make a great film out of that mysterious time period in SW lore.  In the meantime, check out HFP, and enjoy Kenobi’s story thus far.Ewan McGregor in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith

My Favorite Scene: Star Wars Rebels Season 3 (2017) “Twin Suns” SPOILER WARNING

It began on a backwater planet with twin suns, and it was there that the decades-long duel between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Maul finally ended in Star Wars: Rebels Season 3.  (I slapped a spoiler warning on this and I meant it, so don’t come crying to me if you’re not up-to-date.)   Continue reading My Favorite Scene: Star Wars Rebels Season 3 (2017) “Twin Suns” SPOILER WARNING

Every Lightsaber Duel From Star Wars: Clone Wars and Rebels!!!

So how bored are you at work this fine Monday?  A YouTube user by the name of James has put together a 90-minute mash-up of all the lightsaber duels from the six seasons of Star Wars: Clone Wars and the first two seasons of Star Wars: Rebels.  I’m kind of happy season three isn’t in here for people who haven’t caught up yet, because season three, for those not in the know, kills off probably the biggest character in SW canon that the animated series have been allowed to slay.  The fight choreography for the duels just keeps getting better as the series age.  My personal favorites are the duel between Maul, Savage Oppress and Emperor Palpatine, and-of course-the epic reunion duel between Ahsoka and Anakin (now Darth Vader) at the close of Rebels season two.  Chill out, check for your boss, and burn the rest of the work day watching lightsaber duels.  The Last Jedi is almost upon us!
