OK, first of all put the firearm back down. Back away from whatever you just pointed at the computer and/or yourself. It’s not one of the Full House twins. OK? Need a minute? Ok, take that minute.
Neither Marvel or Disney has confirmed this, but Elizabeth Olsen, sister of child actors-turned-emaciated train wrecks Mary Kate and Ashley, has been increasingly mentioned over the last month in connection with the Scarlet Witch. The last week, the rumor has been that Saorise Ronan had been offered the part, but turned it down to do Star Wars Episode VII. Whether Ronan’s headed to a galaxy far far away, we don’t know, but confirmation of Olsen’s casting came from the top man at SHIELD himself: Samuel L. Jackson (I meant Nick Fury…meh, same thing).
Speaking to The Wall Street Journal, Jackson said: “I don’t think we begin shooting before March of next year. I know we’re shooting in London, that James Spader is Ultron and going to be the bad guy, and that we added Ms. [Elizabeth] Olsen [who will play the Scarlet Witch], but I don’t know what she’s doing, if she’s on the inside or the outside. I haven’t seen a script.”
Kick-Ass 2‘s Aaron Taylor-Johnson has been the only name solidly linked with playing Scarlet Witch’s brother, Quicksilver, but that’s unconfirmed, though Taylor-Johnson has expressed extreme interest in playing the speedster.
Olsen has had a number of well-received roles in smaller, independent films and can next be seen in Spike Lee’s Oldboy remake this November and then Gareth Edwards ‘Godzilla reboot (also starring Taylor-Johnson) in May 2014.
First James Spader and now Elizabeth Olsen. Joss Whedon‘s got my trust but they’re not obvious choices. I wonder if we’ll be seeing any of these characters before Avengers 2 with casting being announced nearly a year before production starts… Avengers old and new will return to the screen in Avengers Age of Ultron on May 1, 2015.
