Killing Time – October 10, 2013

Killing Time

Time is an illusion.  Lunchtime doubly so.
~Douglas Adams

Freaking James Spader.  Disappears off my radar after Stargate and now he’s Ultron AND has a really cool new show in The Blacklist.  I will not like you, Spader.  You can try.  You can rub Joss Whedon all over you but I will be loving the Joss not the Spader….these are things I think about and the way in which I think them.

Difficult week on the reality front, so it was good that the first two big fall movies: Gravity and Captain Phillips, stepped up and delivered.  Last year was pretty abysmal until fall and I’m hoping this year will follow the same trend.  It would be convenient if Hollywood would perhaps spread quality out to the other nine months of the year during which I am STILL BORED!

Killing Time milestones this week: 30,000 hits!  1,000 comments!  I’m so happy you guys are just hanging around pistol-whipping time with me.  You guys….NO, YOU!  (hypothetical group hug). The site’s gone pink (not a metaphor) for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  Around the KT offices, we value nothing more than gutsy women and, well, boobs to be quite honest (it’s an all-male staff….it’s still just me).  Anyone or anything attacking women and boobs is evil and I say that not flippantly.  This blight has taken people from me, and being weird is my coping mechanism, but anyone who can do so, should donate or participate in the thousands of events to raise money all over the country this month to support victims, survivors and research for a cure.

POLL: What is Your Favorite Show of the New Season So Far?

abc, cbs, nbc, fox, cw

Well, the fall TV season is three weeks in and, while there are a few shows still to premiere, most have at least two or three episodes under their belt?  Which has stood out to you as the best?  Obviously, I’m watching SHIELD (tomorrow the review, tomorrow, I swear), but I also picked up Brooklyn Ninety-Nine and The Blacklist.  Vote for your favorite new show and we’ll have the results a bit after Halloween!

Trailer Time: I, Frankenstein (2014)

First Two Face.  Now Frankenstein.  I think Aaron Eckhardt needs a sit down about body image issues.  I want to believe this is going to be the Frankenstein movie that will sear that character into this generation’s zeitgeist.  Directed by Stuart Beattie and also starring Bill Nighy, Miranda Otto, Jai Courteny, Kevin Grevioux, Samatha Reed and Luke Wright; I, Frankenstein is an early 2014 entry, opening January 24th.  Films opening in January are not historically zeitgeist searers.

Huge Gallery of Fan Made Amazing Gravity Posters

Geek Tyrant pulled together a collection of the best of the fan made Gravity posters popping up everywhere online.  If I had one criticism of the film it’s  that, once again, the fan community has out done everyone at the studio and created true art to accompany a modern masterpiece.
