Top 5 Candidates to Fill Out Zack Snyder’s Justice League Roster

Top 5
Now that it’s become clear that the follow-up to Man of Steel is not so much a Man of Steel sequel, but a Justice League prequel, we need to fill in a few roster spots between now and when the JLA hits the screen in 2017.  Batman, Superman, Cyborg and Wonder Woman have all been cast for multiple films, so their inclusion in the team seems a done deal.  That leaves three spots left if we’re going with the traditional seven-member team.  Who should get the nod?

1. Green Lantern – skirt the issue of recasting by using John Stewart (another GL assigned to Earth).  You have to have a GL on this team.

2. Flash – you run the risk (pun) of messing with your own TV show if you recast or pull Grant Gustin for duty, but Flash and GL are the two that HAVE to be on the team for it to really be Justice League.

3. Hawkman/Hawkgirl – I like the idea of including one of the Hawks.  Hawkman/Atom have a good friendship that might be fun to include.  It’s a different attitude than anyone else on the team; more brutal than anyone else on the team (depending how warrior-esque they make Wonder Woman).  It’s also a nice visual and it’s a character that is never going to carry a solo movie or TV show.

4. The Atom – The shrinking powers give a different power set to the team and open up a lot of possibilities.  Plus, she’s a scientist so that would come in handy.  It would also give the team another woman (DC changed the sex of the character during the New 52 reboot.

5. Martian Manhunter – Only 5th because Zack Snyder hates the character so I know he’s not going to be picked, but J’onn J’onzz has been the glue of many a great line-up.

Honorable Mention: Green Arrow, Aquaman, Zatanna, Dr. Fate  and Captain Marvel (Shazam).

  1. Green Lantern had the most potential of any DC character to carry a new franchise. I’m not sure what happened. Even though I’ve kind of been preaching doom and gloom about what WB is doing right now, I REALLY want these next few movies to succeed, because I want to see all these characters get their chance. Snyder might not want to see Martian Manhunter in a movie, but I do. Imagine if we had SW, the MCU, and a DC universe all going concurrently? I think my head would go boom, like in Scanners.

    1. I wish them success as well. It’s good for comics and comic book movies when both DC and Marvel do well. GL was not as bad, I thought, as most people made it out to be, but it wasn’t good. He should be the third member of their trinity; WW hasn’t done anything of cultural significance since Lynda Carter played her. They really blew a huge chance with that film.

  2. Green Arrow is number one on my list. Stephen Amell’s character could easily be incorporated in the storyline of a movie whilst giving the show a decent plotline as well for its upcoming seasons.

    1. I love Arrow and Stephen Amell can stand toe-to-toe with those guys, but his character type is similar to Batman so they may decide not to go that way, but I wouldn’t want anyone else playing Ollie if they used him.
