So this time we’re getting bit of a better look at Batman’s ride for 2016’s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Previously we’d only had the background image to the first photo released from the film (which is still my computer’s wallpaper) so for comparison’s sake, let’s throw it in:
Now there are some clear differences from the shot that was just released and the shot behind Ultimate Brooding Batman. First off, the black & white photo looks to be its own thing but a clear amalgam of the best batman designs. The one above looks like a weapons factory on wheels. I think, given the trickery we’ve seen from past Dark Knight rides, that these are the same vehicle and that all this weaponry is tucked away in the same kind of tesseract space logic that made the Batpod possible.
I’m still not sold on this film. I’m not sold on throwing Wonder Woman, Cyborg and Aquaman into the movie (especially when you’re doing a Justice League film the next year). I’m afraid that the characterization begun in Man of Steel (and yes, I’m one of nine people who loved that movie) is going to be undone. I also think, that despite what popular opinion might think, Batman is going to overshadow Superman. He’s more popular. He’s got a greater connection to the popular consciousness. In a movie with just the two of them, you can deal with that. In a movie with a character roster that is looking crowded for an animated feature, I don’t know that you can get Clark out of the shadow of the Bat. That being said, what I have seen, looks fantastic and I really do want them to nail this when it hits theaters on March 25, 2016.
