My Favorite Scene: Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) “12% of a Plan”

Why is Guardians of the Galaxy KT Community’s Movie of 2014?  Because it’s freaking awesome!  I’m much more verbose than that, but at its core, Guardians is just pure, unbridled fun.  Most movies can’t deliver; you’ll get a couple of special ones each year.  This is a film that will endure long after most of the Oscar  Best Picture nominees have faded past memory.  Disney and Marvel trusted their source material, backed it with enough money to make it flawless and delivered a brilliant ensemble, science fiction romp.  This scene is a perfect example of why this film worked, the odd mix of balls-out adventure and heartfelt moments that made Guardians great.  Personally, I only have seven percent of a plan for tomorrow….

  1. Wonderful scene. The part that follows is wonderful, too. I was struggling to figure out what it reminded me of, and then I remembered: the scene in Stripes where Bill Murray gives the inspirational speech that begins, “There is something WRONG with us! There is something seriously WRONG with us!”

BTW… I don’t know if you have heard, but the problem of finding a replacement for Speilberg as more Indy films go forward has found a possible solution: They say Steve wants to do it.

Is it possible that he knows Crystal Skull was a letdown? Is it possible that he only said he was through with action movies because he wanted to stave off discussion of any further Indy films without hurting the feelings of his best friend? Now that Lucas is retired, Steve does not have to struggle to make Lucas’s weird ideas work, so suddenly he’s open to it again. It’s a theory. All I know is, they would be fools to not give it to Steve. There is an excellent case to be made for new blood, but the counter argument is: STEVEN SPEILBERG WANTS TO DO IT. And this time there will be no swinging on vines.
