2016 Oscar Nominees; Who Should Win vs. Who Will Win!!!! The Revenant Lead the Way With 12 Nominations, Mad Max: Fury Road Picks Up 10 and, Star Wars Gets FIVE!

Oscars

As always, when the Oscar nominations are announced there are surprises and snubs, the entire preceding cast under a pall as the news of actor Alan Rickman’s death spread through the room.  Guillermo del Toro, Ang Lee and John Krasinski announced the nominees for the 87th Annual Academy Awards, which will be handed out February 28, 2016.  Dominating the proceedings was The Revenant which hauled in 12 NOMINATIONS including ones for director Alejandro Innaritu, stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy, and Picture.  Mad Max: Fury Road  was not far behind with 10 including Picture and nods as well for director George Miller.  Star Wars didn’t get a well-deserved Best Picture nod, but was certainly not forgotten with five nominations.  Ridley Scott was snubbed for directing The Martian one day after receiving a DGA nomination for his effort.

Imperator Furiosa, Charlize Theron, Mad Max fury Road

Both The Peanuts Movie and The Good Dinosaur were left out of Best Animated Feature.  Aaron Sorkin, after winning a Golden Globe for his Steve Jobs script, was snubbed altogether. Then, baffingly, in a year when there was only one good song in movies, Wiz Khalfia’s “See You Again” from Furious 7, it wasn’t even nominated.  Also, in the strongest year for film in perhaps a decade, the Academy chose to nominate only 8 films for Best Picture when they can nominate 10 and Sicario or Steve Jobs and Ex Machina or Star Wars would have rounded that list off nicely.  Here’s the breakdown by  category along with the KT Pick and who we predict will take home the gold.
