After two teasers and four full trailers, this is (we are promised) the final trailer for Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, which opens next month on March 25th. I’ve made no secret that I’m kind of at a point where I’m dreading this film. There’s way too much being squeezed into one film, and I liked Henry Cavill as Superman so much after Man of Steel and they seem to be going out of their way to undo any possible goodwill you might have for him in that role. I’m not a big Lex Luthor fan to begin with (I think Braniac is Superman’s best villain), but Eisenberg’s take seems….bad. That being said, this is probably my favorite of the trailers.
Likely, because it is completely Batman-centric, and I do really like everything I’ve seen of Ben Affleck’s Batman, watching him beat 12 thugs to pulp was immensely satisfying. Most of the rest of the trailer is recycled footage from the previous five, but you do get to see Batman staring at Darkseid’s Omega symbol (hopefully just a Justice League teaser) and hear Wonder Woman speak for the first time. I hope I’m wrong and this jambalaya of characters somehow gels into a great film. We’ll know in six weeks.
