Trailer Time: Suicide Squad International Trailer #1 (2016) *Next Up in the DC Cinematic Universe*

You may have noted that I haven’t posted a review of Batman vs. Superman yet.  That would be because I’m so dreading having to go see it at this point that I am trying to find an angle that motivates me to go to a theater to see a movie I’ve heard nothing positive about from anyone I trust.

What I am still looking forward to is DCCU Film #3: David Ayer’s Suicide Squad.  New international trailer today with a ton of new footage set to the film’s unofficial theme: Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody”.  I promise I’ll make myself walk the long dark journey of BvS sometime this week.  I know it knocked it out of the park opening weekend.  What I’m going to be very interested to see is the second week’s gross and if the film really is review-proof.
Suicide Squad

It feels good to be bad…Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?

The movie hits theaters on August 5, 2016.

  1. BvS isn’t just dark and unpleasant, I found the tone to be downright disturbing at times. If it has legs, I will be very surprised. Will it affect Suicide Squad’s business? Depends on how much Batman is in it. If it’s basically a fresh batch of characters, with no overt connection to BvS, it might do OK (although after how dark and gloomy BvS turned out to be, in a very, very bad way, I am rethinking whether I want to go back to that tonal place). But if I had to make a prediction, I would say that all the talk about Affleck’s Batman being the savior is going to go out the window. BvS is THAT unappealing, and people are going to associate Affleck’s Batman with it forever, and that won’t be good for anyone.

I could be wrong. I’m not a psychic. It’s just the feeling I’m getting.

On another note, did you know that Kevin Smith named his daughter Harley Quinn Smith? Yup. Something isn’t quite right there.

Did you know that back when Joel Schumacher was going to make another Batman movie, he wanted Courtney Love to play Harley Quinn?

    Kryptonite bullet dodged.

    1. Have you seen Ben Affleck’s interviews? He looks crushed. He’s one of the best directors in Hollywood and a fine actor and the man looks so sad. I’m sure it drove him nuts being a better director than Snyder and seeing how the film was going.
