  1. These days, I’m glad whenever an R rated movie is hugely successful. You know how much I cherish Star Wars, and the MCU, and the films of Mr. Tim Burton, but I wish the studios would make more films that are strictly for grownups. Because older people do exist out there. I’m pretty sure the current situation stemmed from the introduction of the PG-13 rating… I love Spielberg, but he was the biggest culprit, because it all started with the controversy surrounding Gremlins and Temple of Doom.

Did you know that two highly objectionable expletives are enough to slap a film with an R rating? Obviously, the way around that is for the studios to just cram in as many of the allowable expletives as possible. It’s insane. If the studios had to choose between making a PG movie or an R one, I guarantee the quality of movies would improve. PG-13 is a marketing tool that gives the studios free reign to make movies filled with gratuitous stuff, then sell those films to children.

Sorry, that had almost nothing to do with Deadpool.

    Deadpool rocks.

      1. You can drop two f-bombs now? I’m not a prude, I’m really not, but the coarsening of our culture continues. I still think a movie with two f-bombs is less objectionable than a film overstuffed with a ton of lesser expletives though.

All these problems could be eliminated if ratings were simply replaced with brief descriptions of the questionable content. For example, “two f-bombs and a nipple.” You would have to solve the problem of when to admit a minor unaccompanied by an adult, but switching to actual descriptions would be infinitely more useful to parents.
