My Favorite Scene: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (2001) “Hogwarts/The Mirror of Erised”

With the return of The Wizarding World coming this Friday with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, we begin to look back at the films that formed that world: the Harry Potter series. The epic ended just before Killing Time began, so we haven’t had a chance to break them down, so once a month for the next eight, a My Favorite Scene column will be Potterized.  That brings us to 2001’s Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.  The first two films in the series were directed by Chris Columbus, and-like their source material-are largely children’s films.  The Potter series grows up with its protagonists.  The goal of the first film, as the book is fairly simple, was to establish the world; to take Rowling’s vision and translate it to the screen in ways that would form a comfortable visual foundation on which to rest later, more complicated entries.  This was done masterfully.  The first time you see Diagon Alley, Gringotts, Platform 9 3/4, but I think the most breathtaking reveal was Hogwarts itself.  The scene of the boats gliding across the lake at night toward the beautifully lit castle, The Great Hall, The Sorting Hat, all of it comes to life as a fantastical, but very real world.  Having the great John Williams score the moment for you doesn’t hurt either. Watch Dogs 2 – Complete Achievement/Trophy List (Xbox, Playstation – 2016)

Watch Dogs is a franchise much like Dishonored. for me.  Own the first, barely have had a chance to play it in the deluge of awesome games, and now we have a sequel.  I do know there were a lot of critics of the first game, and Ubisoft has apparently taken them into account because the open-world hacking game is getting a lot of buzz (not to mention a scenery change to San Francisco).  One of the last big releases before the holiday hiatus, Watch Dogs 2 is available now for Xbox One, PC, and Playstation 4.  Your achievements below are courtesy of the web’s hub for needy affirmation: xboxachievements.com. Trailer Time: Underworld Blood Wars Trailer #3 (2017) *Someone’s Getting an Upgrade…..and Frosty Tips!*

The fifth Underworld film drops its third trailer, and I must once again reiterate that no matter how bad this movie may be from a critical standpoint….I am still going to pay money to see it and love it.  I have loved the Underworld series since the first installment.  You have vampires.  You have werewolves (Lycans).  You have them fighting a war through the ages.  You have Kate Beckinsale in skin-tight leather.  You can call them a guilty pleasure, but I the first 2017 movie I see is probably going to be the fifth (and likely final) film in the franchise, Underworld: Blood Wars.
