  1. I loved this movie. And yet, I wish it had fit in with the style established by Snyder. I’m sure you remember me taking his debacle apart, piece by piece, but I still wanted a dark, different DCEU. They needn’t have changed Diana, I’m not suggesting that, but her collision course with the modern outside world could have been a lot more brutal, and her presence as a real live figure during WWI, a game changer, could have been played up more.

I loved the movie though. I just don’t know where this enterprise stands. I wanted genuine darkness, and characters who were believable as gods on earth. The stuff of high drama. Snyder aimed for high drama. WW was not high drama. I really thought there was a possibility that WB would reach for the stars, and now I think they might not.

I will say this: the ongoing saga of WB and the DCEU would make for a more entertaining movie than most of the DCEU films have turned out to be, and also a more provocative one.

    1. I completely disagree. No darkness was needed in this film or Diana at this point in her life especially. Darkness fits some characters at some times. It isn’t a foundation for world building. It’s a specific tool Snyder wildly overused.

      1. The film is about. WWI though. If you don’t like the word darkness, maybe substitute the word intensity? And part of what Snyder established was a world with very traditional superheroes, yet also political and morally ambiguous concerns, and it gave the films a unique flavor. People who actually read comic books were familiar with that sort of thing, but average moviegoers not so much. WW was too much not of this Earth. She needed to mingle more with the darkness. And to show that she was a goddess, she needed to come up against the darkness with more gravitas.

But as I said I love the film as it is, I am enamored with Gal Gadot, and now there is a chance the DCEU will not drag down The whole genre. So my complaints are not really complaints.
