Each Thursday we look at what is going to be coming out in theaters this weekend, show you the trailers for the big releases, predict the box office winner and just generally give you enough of a carrot to pull you through the rest of the work week.  This week brings two smaller wide releases to the theaters whose main competition will be the giant releases from the previous two weekends.

Another week, another sequel: the story of 2018 in film.  This weekend brings the sequel to 2015’s SicarioSicario: Day of the Soldado has a different director, but the same screenwriter. and Josh Brolin continues THE SUMMER OF BROLIN with his third big film in eight weeks.  Unlike its predecessor, Soldado is getting mixed reviews (at 69% on Rotten Tomatoes at time of writing).  It’s competition this weekend is the glorified commercial/basketball comedy Uncle Drew.  Starring NBA greats Shaquille O’Neal and Kyrie Irving, the film is also getting mixed reviews (53% at time of writing).

How Did We Do Last Week?
KT picked Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom to take a dino-sized bite out of the box office and so it did.  Though it was down from its predecessor’s massive opening, the fifth Jurassic film still managed to rake in $148.1 million.  Worldwide, the film has already made just a bit under $800 million going into its second weekend.  Staying very strong, The Incredibles 2 made $80.5 million in its second weekend and this weekend looks poised to pass Shrek 2 and become the #2 animated film of all-time.
(2018 Prediction Record: 25-0; Lifetime prediction record 110 – 10).

WHO WILL WIN THE WEEKEND?
Jurassic World and Incredibles 2 should repeat #1-2 atop the box office without any trouble at all.  If they do, we’ll have our first perfect half-year since this column began!
