Game of Thrones’ sixth season was probably the strongest, offering up nothing but epic payoff as the show begins to do what George R.R. Martin clearly never will: finish the story. Martin’s sixth book is still nowhere in sight, and he had another planned after that. I’m willing to bet the sixth book eventually comes out, but I’d be surprised if he actually ever finished the series. HBO has done too good a job for him. Now they’re looking at four different avenues of prequel series for after GoT is finished, and Westeros is certainly deep enough in lore to support ONE (not all four are going to get greenlit). The seventh season and eighth season are going to be a split finale for the show, with eight episodes this year and seven episodes in 2018 (maybe 2019 now as they are apparently ballooning to feature-length). HBO has released two clips from what is presumably the premiere episode of Game of Thrones season five. We also have a new poster for the season featuring Drogon and Arya Stark. Game of Thrones returns to HBO on April 12, 2015 at 9PM. Be there!
Last night, Game of Thrones debuted select episodes in select IMAX theaters and along with the awesomeness of seeing Westeros on an IMAX screen, fans were treated to the first trailer from season five of Game of Thrones. The fifth book in George R. R. Martin’s fantasy series (and the last one he’s managed to finish) is called A Dance with Dragons. The fifth season has been integrating the fourth and fifth books since as far back as the third season. It keeps getting better and better and I will have to find some way of acquiring HBO again so I can see the premiere of season five on April 12, 2015 at 9 p.m. And I have to say…..it looks fantastic!
Our long national geek nightmare begins once more. Game of Thrones season four is done and we now face ten months without our GoT weekly fix. We must be brave. We have faced this before, and we shall do so again. Before we wander off to other pursuits, though, it’s time for our tenth and last installment in our reviews and talkbacks for each episode. A warning, and the only one before we dive in, this column is specifically for people watching the show live week-by-week so if you don’t want spoilers, don’t continue.
