POLL: What Was the Best Film of 2014?

IT IS TIME!  The Killing Time Community must now perform its most solemn duty of the year: choosing what film they will endorse as Movie of the Year.  This is the 3rd Annual award, with The Dark Knight Rises and Gravity taking honors in 2013 and 2014, respectively.  What movie will receive the coveted golden stabbed watch statue (commonly known as “the Stabby”) this year and all the prestige and fanfare that comes with the honor?  You will choose.  I’ll vote once just like any other member, but the readers decide this award.  I do my own personal awards in a different forum, but that’s just one man’s opinion.  This is the endorsement of the readers.

You’ll note there are 20 films to choose from, and I know that’s a lot, but this is the formula I used to select the nominees:
1. All eight Academy Award Best Picture nominees
2. My personal top eight films
3. Top 4 highest grossing films that didn’t make it on to the first two lists (so that’s why Transformers is there; that’s OUR bad).

I hope this gives you the variety you need to make your decision.  VOTE!   Please, if you read this site, voice your opinion on this one.  The poll will run until the Friday before Oscar Sunday, when we’ll unveil the 2015 Killing Time Movie of the Year!

I know I bashed it all year, but truly 2014 was the most mediocre year at the movies I’ve experienced in my lifetime.  As such, I haven’t published my TOP 10 until now, not because I don’t have ten good films, but because I keep waiting for all the films that are supposed to be Oscar favorites to come to my theater and -thus far- they haven’t.  Now, next week the Academy will announce the 2015 Oscar Nominations and I will, no doubt, be hopping up and down mad just like I am every year.  But that recognition, will bring those films to more markets and my Top 10 may look significantly different by the time we hand out our own version of the Oscars: The 3rd Annual Renaissance Film Awards.  What film will follow The Dark Knight Rises and Gravity as Best Picture winners?  How much will this list change in a month?  Right now, here are my Top 10 Films of 2014 with links to my full reviews. Killing Time’s 25 Most-Anticipated Movies of 2014

Now that we’ve looked back on the best films of 2013, it’s time to look ahead at the release schedule for 2014.  I’ve gone through the line-up and pulled the 25 films that I’m most anticipating.  I say this with a caveat because as weak as last year was, this year looks much weaker.  The summer is ludicrously front-loaded.  May is again congested with huge films every week and then the back half of the summer seems left to Michael Bay (whose films are not going to be on this list).  As always, the further into the year we go, the less sure release dates are, so this is based on what the release dates were and what has been announced at the time of writing.  For each film, rather than try to summarize why I’m looking forward to it, I’m going to include a trailer (as far as I can into the year) so you can check it out and see what you think.  When we get to the point where trailers aren’t available yet, I’ll provide what I know.  These are in chronological order by release date.
