KT Readers Choose The Best Show on TV (4th Annual Awards)!!!!

Each September, in conjunction with Emmy month, Killing Time readers choose what they believe to be the best show currently on television.  TV has gone from a second tier medium to one that is consistently better with more variety than the movies.  There’s so much quality, in fact, that, this year, I doubled the nominees from the regular 10 to 20 shows. We had a record number of votes for any poll in the history of the site, and every one of the 20 shows received votes, but in the end, we have our fourth new winner in four years: The Flash is the best show on television. Poll: What is the Best Show on TV? 4th Annual KT Viewers’ Poll!!!

Each September, in conjunction with Emmy month, Killing Time readers choose what they believe to be the best show currently on television.  TV has gone from a second tier medium to one that is consistently better with more variety than the movies.  There’s so much quality, in fact, that I have doubled the nominees from the regular 10 to 20 shows.  It’s telling that, in those 20 shows, there’s not a comedy among them.  The sitcom has never been at a worse point, while drama has never been better. Poll Results: Daredevil Is the Best Show on Television!!! Plus the KT TV Awards!

Daredevil is the third show in three years to take home the coveted title of “Killing Time Community Best Show on TV”.  2013 was Game of Thrones, 2014 was The Walking Dead and now 2015 belongs to Daredevil.  The Man Without Fear lead post to post, dominating most of the early voting, but barely holding off a late surge from Game of Thrones after the HBO drama smashed the Emmy record for most wins by a show.  Daredevil was my pick as well, and I think the best thing the MCU has produced to-date, which given the bar they’ve set, is truly high praise.

Daredevil will be back for season 2 in April 2016. We’ll see The Punisher and Elektra join the mix and Scott Glenn will return as Matt’s mentor, Stick.  The series received ONE Emmy nomination (for Sound Effects Editing), which is, again, why I do not watch the Emmys.  Had I all the power in the universe, and in this universe I do, these would have been my winners in the major categories:

Best Drama: Daredevil, Netfilx
Best Comedy: Parks & Recreation, NBC
Best Actor, Drama: Jon Hamm, Mad Men, AMC
Best Actress, Drama: Robin Wright, House of Cards, Netflix
Best Actor, Comedy: Jim Parsons, The Big Bang Theory, CBS
Best Actress, Comedy: Amy Poehler, Parks & Recreation, NBC
Best Supporting Actor, Drama: Vincent D’Onofrio, Daredevil
Best Supporting Actress, Drama: Emilia Clarke, Game of Thrones
Best Supporting Actor, Comedy: Nick Offerman, Parks & Recreation
Best Supporting Actress, Comedy: Aubrey Plaza, Parks & Recreation

Poll: What is the Best Show on TV? 3rd Annual KT Viewers’ Poll!!!

Twice yearly, the Killing Time Community makes a legacy selection. Every year in September, we vote for the best show currently on television. Every year before the Oscars, we vote for the best film of the previous year. These two polls become part of the history of the site (and I’ve been meaning to do a widget up to honor past winners of both polls).

TV is better than film right now. There’s more quality and quantity of good storytelling and amazing acting being done on, mostly, cable television than there is in movie theaters. It’s a dramatic shift, and I think it may be a permanent one. Don’t get me wrong, there will always be amazing movies, but I think the mid-level film has been replaced by that talent developing a television series.  Plus, the network drama is so eclipsed by cable, that the only two nominees not from a cable network are The CW’s fantastic duo of Arrow and The Flash.  Netflix, HBO, AMC, etc.  These are the places for quality TV in this day and age. POLL: What’s the Best Show on TV?

There’s a reason these polls run for a month, the really big decisions.  What’s the best TV show this year ran for a month and for that month, Game of Thrones lead 25 of those days with Arrow, The Walking Dead and Sherlock in a dead head behind it.  Then, at the last minute, Sherlock blazes past last year’s winner and takes the crown from GoT.  Sherlock is Killing Time’s 2014 Best Show on TV!

What do you think about the new champion?  Where did your show finish?
