Movie Review: Blade Runner 2049 (2017) *The New Masterpiece Tops The Old*

Ryan Gosling and Ana de Armas in Blade Runner 2049
Despite not being a fan of the original Blade Runner, I completely acknowledge its importance to science fiction film making.  It’s undoubtedly a seminal work in the genre.  Blade Runner 2049 surpasses it on every level.  It is the rare sequel to a seemingly standalone film that takes everything good about the film and enhance its predecessor while simultaneously telling a better directed, better written, better acted, and visually superior installment.  Blade Runner 2049 isn’t just another Denis Villenueve masterpiece; it’s arguably the best film of 2017.

Blade Runner 2049 Trailer #3 “The Future of the Species is Finally Unearthed”

I have never tried so hard to like a movie in my life and failed as I have with Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner. I have watched it FIVE times, and every time I walk away thinking it’s boring dreck. HOWEVER, I have loved every trailer I’ve seen for Blade Runner 2049, every still, every shot, every line. I think it’s awesome that Harrison Ford in the last years of his career is revisiting his legacy characters and giving them glory moments, and the audience a reminder of why he’s the one of the greatest actors of his generation: the everyman, instantly relatable and always entertaining. Director Denis Villeneuve has never disappointed me, and I don’t think he’s about to start here. For a full synopsis, read below. Trailer Time: Blade Runner 2049 Trailer #2 “Your Story Isn’t Over Yet. There’s Still a Page Left.”

*Text from Geek Tyrant (This looks phenomenal)

Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.

The film also stars Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Robin Wright, Mackenzie Davis, Carla Juri, Lennie James, with Dave Bautista, Edward James Olmos and Jared Leto. All of which look fantastic in the role they play.

The movie was directed by Denis Villeneuve and it’s set to be released on October 6, 2017.
