The Man Who Invented Christmas Trailer #1 “God Bless Us, Every One!”

Dan Stevens has had himself quite a year.  He was the male lead in Beauty and the Beast, at time of writing, the highest grossing domestic film of 2017.  His FX series Legion was critically lauded and renewed.  He had a great supporting part in Anne Hathaway’s Colossal, and he’s finishing the year by inventing Christmas…..or at least the second most popular tale told ’round that time of year.  Stevens is playing no less than Charles Dickens, on the brink of ruin, and looking for inspiration as the characters and iconic lines that make up A Christmas Carol come to him.  No doubt less factual than Domhnall Gleeson’s turn as A.A. Milne in Good-bye Christopher Robin, it’s still a good looking trailer and Stevens is joined by Jonathan Pryce and Christopher Plummer.  The Man Who Invented Christmas will open November 22, 2017.

Marshall Trailer #2 (2017) “The Only Way to Get Through a Bigot’s Door is to Break it Down”

Before he was the Black Panther, Chadwick Boseman turned in two of the most impressive biopic performances in recent years portraying baseball icon Jackie Robinson in 42 and soul legend James Brown in Get on Up.  This fall Boseman will be portraying Thurgood Marshall, the first African-American Supreme Court Justice and civil rights pioneer.  The film, directed by Reginald Hudlin, focuses on a case early in Marshall’s career, before he became one of the most formidable lawyers and jurists in American history.  Co-starring with Kate Hudson, Dan Stevens, and Josh Gad, Boseman’s Marshall will arrive in theaters October 13, 2017.

My Favorite Scene: Beauty and the Beast (2017) “Evermore”

Beauty and the Beast was a polarizing film (that still managed to end up being #8 on the all-time U.S. box office chart). Some felt it bettered the 1991 animated classic, some felt that film could never be touched, and some-like me-feel that both can be spectacular. I don’t think the live-action film surpasses its original the way 2016’s The Jungle Book did, but I loved Beauty and the Beast (you can read my review here), despite some flaws, and a huge reason why is Dan Stevens and his musical number: “Evermore”.
