40 Rogue One Easter Eggs You May Have Missed!!!

If you thought Episode VII had a bunch of Easter eggs and fan nods scattered throughout the film, Rogue One has even more.  You probably caught some of them, but did you catch 40?  What Culture has and has put together this ode to the tricksy people at Lucasfilm for sneaking even more awesomeness into a film I love more every time I see it.

Movie Review: Rogue One A Star Wars (2016) *The Half of A New Hope You Never Knew You Missed*

Felicity Jones, Jyn Erso, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is the first standalone film in the Star Wars Saga.  As such, there are a lot of questions surrounding it from the general public and Star Wars’ rabid fan base.  I’ve sat here for a good hour and tried to figure out a way to do a spoiler-free review of the film, and I don’t think it’s possible given the level of detail that Star Wars fans care about.  So I’m going to tell you in a quick bullet what I think of the film, then if you don’t want more detail, bail and head to your theater because this is absolutely worth seeing on the biggest screen possible.  Rogue One is definitely its own animal, but at the same time manages to be a Star Wars film so integral to the Saga that by the time it’s done it feels like the first half of A New Hope that you never realized was missing.  It’s not perfect; it’s not the best film of the year; it’s not the best Star Wars film; and, at times, it struggles with the balance of standing alone and blending with the Episode Films.  Its issues, though, are fair outweighed by what it gets right.  Rogue One an action-packed return to the days of the Original Trilogy that takes one sentence from A New Hope’s opening crawl and expands it into a story that makes A New Hope a better film and the Saga better as a whole.  It’s a very different Star Wars experience, but one very much worth having, so go now if you haven’t already! (Thus endeth my spoiler-free portion). Continue reading Movie Review: Rogue One A Star Wars (2016) *The Half of A New Hope You Never Knew You Missed*

Rogue One Will Have No Opening Crawl!!

Darth Vader, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Jyn Erso

The official review embargo for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will not lift until December 13th: three days before the film’s release.  Skywalker Ranch, this weekend, hosted a 28-minute preview of the film and the thoughts coming out of it sound extremely positive, but also bring a surprise: Rogue One will have no opening crawl.  Not only will there be no opening crawl, there’s no Star Wars logo or fanfare.  The film will go right from the iconic “A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away” to the film’s opening.  I honestly don’t know how I feel about that, but I’m cruising on a lot of trust in Disney right now.  Other notes included very positive reviews of Felicity Jones and Diego Luna, that Ben Mendelsohn’s Director Orson Krennic is a very different sort of Dark Side villain, and that Alan Tudyk’s K-2SO will steal the film.  I know they have to set the new spin-off films apart, but I don’t know that they needed to go so far as to remove completely the traditional opening.  If anything, I would think the spinoff would need the crawl more to place them in context for casual fans.  But, like I said, Disney’s done no wrong with the franchise since they got it in my eyes, so I’m still locked in on the countdown to Rogue One‘s opening on December 16th.

Trailer Time: Rogue One – A Star Wars Story International Trailer #2 (2016) *It’s Nearly Vader Time!*

My apologies for technical difficulties this week, but hopefully the Killing Time IT staff has fixed our vexing computer woes.  In return, I give you ANOTHER ROGUE ONE TRAILER!  I know the last two they posted I said was probably the last one, but I’m happily made a liar again as Lucasfilm releases an unprecedented number of trailers for this first Star Wars spin-off film.  This is the second international trailer, and while it follows the course of the last domestic trailer, there’s more Vader and Death Star action, so watch it on a loop!  We’re only five weeks away from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story when it opens December 16, 2016.
