Trailer Time: Zootopia Trailer #1 (2016) *Can Disney Animation Keep the Streak Alive?*

Can Walt Disney Animation continue its renaissance?  So dismally outshone by Pixar that it might as well have been dead, it looked like things were over for the House That Walt Built.  But after Tangled, Frozen and Big Hero 6, you could argue they’re operating on just as high a level (if not higher) than their Pixar brethren.  Either way, it’s great for Disney fans.

The modern mammal metropolis of Zootopia is a city like no other. Comprised of habitat neighborhoods like ritzy Sahara Square and frigid Tundratown, it’s a melting pot where animals from every environment live together—a place where no matter what you are, from the biggest elephant to the smallest shrew, you can be anything. But when rookie Officer Judy Hopps (voice of Ginnifer Goodwin) arrives, she discovers that being the first bunny on a police force of big, tough animals isn’t so easy. Determined to prove herself, she jumps at the opportunity to crack a case, even if it means partnering with a fast-talking, scam-artist fox, Nick Wilde (voice of Jason Bateman), to solve the mystery.Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Zootopia,”

The comedy-adventure is being directed by Byron Howard (Tangled, Bolt) and Rich Moore (Wreck-It Ralph, The Simpsons) and co-directed by Jared Bush (Penn Zero: Part-Time Hero). The voice cast also includes Shakira, Idris Elba, J.K. Simmons, Nate Torrence, Jenny Slate, Tommy Chong, Octavia Spencer, Bonnie Hunt, Don Lake, Alan Tudyk, Tommy “Tiny” Lister, Raymond Persi, Katie Lowes, Jesse Corti, and John DiMaggio.

Zootopia opens in theaters on March 4th, 2016.

Disney Officially Announces Frozen 2

Mondo Posters, Frozen, Anna, Elsa

Well, given the commercial and critical success of Frozen, it comes as no surprise that at the same meeting where Bob Iger blew our minds with Star Wars news, he also officially announced the production of Frozen 2.  The same directors as the first film, Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, will both return for the sequel.  It’s a little odd, given that both of them were quoted as saying they had no story for a sequel last week when they were promoting “Frozen Fever“: the short that will be opening tomorrow with Cinderella.  The original Frozen won two Oscars and was the top-grossing animated feature of all-time, pulling in $1.2 billion worldwide.
