Call of Duty is here with its annual installment of token campaigning followed by multiplayer that will swallow your life. I actually have to say that I have lost all interest in Call of Duty as it goes further and further into a science fiction future. The pinnacle of the series, ironically, is getting a remastered packaging with CoD:IW. When Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was released, it changed the shooter genre forever. Yes, it had amazing multiplayer, but it also had a killer campaign and was rooted in the military of today. This entire genre started back with Medal of Honor, and it’s been at its best when it has put players in historic/current military situations. I’m playing Battlefield 1 right now, and it’s astoundingly good. I’m sure CoD is well-made, but if I want a science fiction shooter, Titanfall 2 looks amazing and Gears of War 4 is the best entry in the series since the second game. This will sell 10 million copies, and that’s great, but I really have completely lost interest in the franchise (sigh, yes, there are zombies again too). I know that a ton of people are waiting for the midnight launch, and I hope you have a blast. Cheevos below, as always, courtesy of the good folks at xboxachievements.com. For those few intrepid souls who actually play the story in COD games before wading into map packs to frag foul-mouthed tweens, here is the epic trailer for the campaign portion of Call of Duty: Ghosts. The tenth game in the franchise will release November 5th for current generation consoles and will be a launch title for both the Playstation 4 and Xbox One.
The most successful franchise in modern gaming debuted its multiplayer trailer today, which-to most COD players-is the the only part of the game that matters. Call of Duty: Ghosts is the tenth entry in the series, developed by Infinity Ward, the group that really brought the series to the forefront with Call of Duty Modern Warfare. Call of Duty Ghosts will be released November 5th for Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. The game will also be a launch title for both the Xbox One and Playstation 4 (both consoles have yet to set a firm date).
Call of Duty 10 or “Ghosts” as those who hate sequential numbering would have it, was announced earlier but there’s a new trailer playing on the floor at E3. Two other gameplay trailers to accompany it for you crazy shooting people who make this the biggest cash cow in entertainment. The last COD I played was Black Ops 1 and it just did not take. COD Modern Warfare was one of the most impressive games of this console generation and it, like Ghosts, was developed by Infinity Ward.
For those of you who won’t hop immediately into multiplayer, the story “takes place following a devastating event that changed the global balance of power, with the United States no longer recognized as a superpower. Ten years after the event, a band of elite soldiers known as the ‘Ghosts’ wage a covert war against an unseen enemy, with the outcome having far-reaching consequences for both themselves and the remains of America.”
Call of Duty: Ghosts comes out November 5, 2013, for PS3, Xbox 360, PC and Wii U. It will be released for PS4 and XB1 at a later date.
