Coming out of last year’s Comic Con, I thought Kong Skull Island was the most impressive looking film of the bunch, and I had high hopes for cinema’s ape emeritus going into his first outing since the bloated mess that was Peter Jackson’s King Kong. This film takes place in the MONARCH Universe (I’m not sure if there’s an official name) along with Gareth Edward’s Godzilla and the upcoming-wait for it-Godzilla vs. King Kong. Like Godzilla, the film gets the monster right. This is an interesting take on Kong, and one that does him justice. The problem, like in Godzilla, are the humans surrounding him. Each Thursday we look at what is going to be coming out in theaters this weekend, show you the trailers for the big releases, predict the box office winner and just generally give you enough of a carrot to pull you through the rest of the work week. Week 4 of the MONTH OF MADNESS brings an intriguing science fiction epic and two really unappealing updates of old TV series (TIME TO SEE LOGAN OR BEAUTY AND THE BEAST AGAIN!). Each Thursday we look at what is going to be coming out in theaters this weekend, show you the trailers for the big releases, predict the box office winner and just generally give you enough of a carrot to pull you through the rest of the work week. Week 3 of MARCH MADNESS has the biggest film of the month and two EXTREMELY polar opposite bits of counter programming for those of you who aren’t staying home to watch the actual March Madness. Well, if Kong: Skull Island accomplishes nothing else, it will have made some of the best-produced, most stylish, gorgeously cinematic trailers of recent years. I really liked Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla, but this looks ten times better and if it is, and they can make a showdown film between these monsters as epic as this looks….then we will have achieved true monster awesomeness. Kong Skull Island is Film #2 in March Movie Madness 2017 and opens March 10, 2017.

Welcome to a brand-new year of movie watching! Yes, there are still plenty of 2016 releases to view and review as we move toward Oscar season (and I can promise you there will be more reviews than there have been of late, my apologies for that), but it’s always exciting to stand at the beginning of the new year and look at what’s upcoming. I thought the best way to do that was to highlight the ten best trailers for 2017 movies released thus far. These are mostly for first-half releases, and some films just missed the list so here’s just a taste of what’s coming in 2017 that isn’t on the list: Star Wars Episode VIII, Justice League, John Wick Chapter 2, The Circle, Alien: Covenant, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, The Mummy, Spider-Man Homecoming, The Dark Tower, Creed 2, It, Thor: Ragnarok, Murder on the Orient Express, and many more. So get ready for the ride; it’s going to be a heck of a year! Continue reading Top 10: Trailers for 2017 Movies
