Comic Con 2016 Thursday – Posters and Photos

Comic Con

Comic Con International 2016 is upon us!  What was once a normal comic convention has morphed into a media extravaganza.  Each day of the con will bring new posters and first-look pictures.  We’ll collect as many as are gatherable into a single daily update for your compact geeky pleasure.  Outside the convention center in San Diego is a giant statue of Captain America, commissioned for the character’s 75th anniversary.  Inside, Thursday brought looks at Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Suicide Squad, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, American Gods, Fast 8, The Defenders, Cage, Iron Fist, Kong: Skull Island, and Snowden.

Punisher Series Has Been Officially Greenlit By Netflix!!!!

The Punisher is a character that had been badly maligned in the hands of other studios.  Marvel managed to fix him in about an episode and a half of season two of Daredevil.  Jon Bernthal brought Frank Castle to life in a way that made his actions logical in his mind and humanized a character that’s easy to dismiss.  My favorite episode of Daredevil thus far is 2.03 when Frank and Matt have their rooftop debate as to the ethics of vigilante justice leading into the greatest fight scene in TV history (which you can see here)

Jon Bernthal, The Punisher

Marvel has said in the past that it wants to keep the number of Netflix series at four.  There’s no announcement date on the very awesome teaser released today, but it likely will take place after The Defenders.  Jessica Jones has already been renewed (and won a Peabody Award). A third season of Daredevil seems inevitable given the set-up for one in season two.  I think post-Defenders that Luke Cage & Iron Fist will probably be combined (maybe even with Jessica Jones) for their traditional Heroes for Hire team-up.  Jones, Cage, and Iron Fist’s storylines in the comics have traditionally intersected, so it seems logical.  That would leave room for The Punisher and perhaps another series to debut.  Read below for Coming Soon’s take on the announcement. Trailer Time: Jessica Jones Trailer #2 (Netflix-2015) *MCU’s Darkest Journey Yet*

The next installment in the MCU takes us back to the gritty streets of Hell’s Kitchen for Netflix’s second series in conjunction with Marvel: Jessica Jones. The 13-episode first season staring Breaking Bad’s Krysten Ritter will debut for binge watching on November 20th on the network. Jones is the darkest and most mature Marvel title to be adapted yet and will also feature Mike Colter as Luke Cage, who will be the star of Netflix’s 3rd series.  If the quality is anything like Daredevil, which I still think is the best thing in entertainment this year, we’ll have something awesome to tide us over until we pick up with the films in May.

Trailer Time: Jessica Jones Trailer #1 (Netflix – 2015)

It’s very teaser, but the second Netflix/Marvel collaboration, Jessica Jones, will release on the streaming network on November 20, 2015. The 13-episode season will tell the story of a former super hero (Krysten Ritter) whose career was cut short by tragedy and now works as a private investigator.  The series will take place in the MCU, more specifically in the dark corner that Daredevil helped establish earlier this year.  Daredevil is scheduled to return for a second season next year along with two new series: Luke Cage (who will be a character in Jessica Jones) and Iron Fist.
