In Theaters This Week (5/5/2016) – Captain America: Civil War

Each Thursday we look at what is going to be coming out in theaters this weekend, show you the trailers for the big releases, predict the box office winner and just generally give you enough of a carrot to pull you through the rest of the work week.  May 5th is the first weekend in May and that means it’s Marvel’s weekend.  The Disney/Marvel partnership has a death grip on this weekend that’s not likely to evaporate any time soon.  This year, the third phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe kicks off with Captain America: Civil War.  Three other smaller, indie films are also opening, but I’m not sure in how many theaters, because most will be showing Captain America on anything big enough to catch the projector’s image.   Continue reading In Theaters This Week (5/5/2016) – Captain America: Civil War

POLL RESULTS: What MCU Phase 3 Movie Are You Most Excited About?

Crossbones, Frank Grillo, Captain America: Civil War

This was never even close.  With Cap 3 turning into Captain America: Civil War (or as we’ve taken to calling it – Avengers 2.5), people have their eyes on the next huge event in the MCU.  What I did find interesting is that every film got multiple votes.  This is a phase that seems to have something for everyone and a lot to look forward to over the next four years.  The runners-up are both new franchises introducing characters not exactly A-list on the public consciousness with Black Panther and Dr. Strange, which bodes well for the future of the whole enterprise.  Thanks for everyone who voted, and we’ll have another poll up next week!

POLL REMINDER: What MCU Phase 3 Movie Are You Most Excited About?

Just a quick reminder to vote on which of these films is your most anticipated from Marvel’s upcoming third phase of its cinematic universe.  Ant-Man will kick things off in just two months, so look through your choices and VOTE VOTE VOTE!  The KT Phase 3 film of choice will be announced early next week so get to clickin’!tumblr_njmpx4GNTB1shcmlfo1_500With Avengers: Age of Ultron bringing to a close MCU Phase 2, we now turn our sights to Phase 3, which will begin in just a few short months with Ant-Man.  Phase 3 is going to be the darkness before the dawn.  We’re going to lose old friends, but we’re going to gain a heck of a lot of new ones including Spider-Man making his MCU debut in Cap 3.  The final film in Phase 3 will NOT be Avengers: Infinity War Part II, but The Inhumans, which leads one to wonder what the jumping off point will be for Phase 4.  Given their close ties to the Fantastic Four, perhaps they’re hoping they can wheedle them back from FOX by then and give us a post-credits Inhumans tease of Galactus.  That ….would be epic.

Now Drew Goddard OUT as Daredevil Show Runner??? More Details on Edgar Wright’s Departure from Ant-Man.

Daredevil, Mark Waid, Marvel, Chris Samnee

Bleeding Cool is reporting that Angel’s Drew Goddard has been replaced as writer and show runner of the upcoming Marvel Daredevil Netflix series by Steven DeKnight.  Goddard is staying on as a consultant and DeKnight worked closely with both Goddard and Joss Whedon during Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, so this commitment change may have more to do about Drew Goddard directing Sony’s Sinister 6 spin-off than solidarity with the Edgar Wright situation.  This still remains hugely disappointing to me.  I thought Goddard was perfect for my favorite Marvel hero.
