Movie Review: Ant-Man (2015) *Phase 2 Closes on a High Note!*

Paul Rudd, Scott Lang, Ant-Man

Let’s be honest: we’ve been worried about Ant-Man.  It isn’t enough that the hero is difficult (borderline silly) to seriously segue into the already-crowded Marvel Cinematic Universe.  Ant-Man had a tortured near-deacade long journey to the big screen, a directorial change at the last minute, serious rewrites and cast a comedian with no action movies in his resume in its lead role.  Let me allay your fears: Ant-Man is good.  It’s a fun, funny heist movie that deftly brings Ant-Man into the MCU in a big way.  Marvel’s made another smart, unique film that ends its second phase on a light note before the looming specter of Captain America: Civil War and Phase 3. There are TWO End Credits Scenes in Ant-Man!!

The second phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will close tomorrow with the release of Ant-Man.  The film has been getting decent reviews, which given the disaster fans we’re bracing themselves for, is going to be just fine should that be the case (Rotten Tomatoes and I are not seeing eye to eye these days).  Fans heading out should know that there are TWO end credits scenes, both important to the future of the MCU.  One at mid-credits; one at the very end.  So, unlike Avengers 2, keep yourself planted in the seat until the last credit rolls.

Trailer Time: Ant-Man Trailer #2 (2015) *Marvel’s Biggest Question Mark*

Ant-Man will kick off the 3rd Phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe on July 17, 2015.  Right now, everyone is focused on Avengers: Age of Ultron, but once the fever dies down from that….we’re going to realize Ant-Man is next.  It has had, without a doubt, the most troubled production of any MCU movie to date and, I’ll be honest, the trailers are not reassuring me.  What do you think?  Is Ant-Man going to lowball Iron Man 3 and become the new low point of the MCU or is the little guy going to surprise us all?

Trailer Time: Ant-Man Trailer #1 (2015) PLUS First Poster and Pictures from the Trailer

OK, Marvel fans.  Admit it.  Ant-Man has us worried.  Really worried.  Worried before director Edgar Wright, who had worked on the project for seven years was replaced by Peyton Reed who has a history of directing average to awful comedies.  This is our first look and my reaction is…..maybe?   There’s nothing in this trailer that has me pumping my fist, but the costume is better than Ant-Man has ever had in the comics and there were a lot of shots of things that I found intriguing.  Ant-Man will kick off the 3rd Phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe on July 17, 2015.
