Trailer Time: X-Men Apocalypse Trailer #3 (2016) *Wolverine’s A Comin’ Too!*

I have a bad feeling about this film.  Three trailers, all feel kind of on the same level of impressive as Independence Day: Resurgence, but these movies are supposed to have plot.  This trailer gives away two major spoilers in that Quicksilver reveals he’s figured out he’s Magneto’s son and a certain clawed mutant answers the question of whether or not he’s joining the fray.  I don’t know, it just seems like a lot of explosions and not much character focus at all.  Hopefully, I’m wrong.  Jennifer Lawrence is clearly owning this film, and she and James McAvoy have said they want to do more.  FOX is already rumored to be ramping up for X-Men: Dark Phoenix to follow this.

Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshipped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.

Psylocke, Olivia Munn, X-Men: Apocalypse

X-Men: Apocalypse also stars Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Rose Byrne as Moira MacTaggert, Lucas Till as Havok and newcomers Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Ben Hardy as Angel, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Olivia Munn as Psylocke, Lana Condor as Jubilee, and Oscar Isaac as Apocalypse.

X-Men: Apocalypse is set for release on May 27th, 2016.

Trailer Time: X-Men Apocalypse Trailer #2 (2016) *The World Needs the X-Men*

I was not a big fan of the first trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse, and I can’t  say the second trailer has done much to raise my hopes.  Repeating lines verbatim from the first films?  The Apocalypse as a god angle; not my favorite interpretation of the character.  I don’t like that Magneto is in such a place that he just gives up, and let’s himself be controlled.  Archangel is an obvious horseman and I could buy Psylocke, but Storm?  This is clearly Mystique’s film among the mutants (coincidentally probably the last Jennifer Lawrence will do), and Wolverine’s cliffhanger storyline from Days of Future Past needs to be resolved.  I hope it’s better than it looks.  DOFP looked incredible and let down a bit; maybe Apocalypse will be the reverse.

X-Men: Apocalypse

X-Men: Apocalypse’s first trailer seems to be getting a lot of mixed reactions from fans.  Snaking the continuity of the X-Men franchise around so that it’s now reintroducing younger versions of the characters from the first film is extremely tricky, but the biggest problem with it may be the biggest reason for the franchise’s success: Hugh Jackman.  His Wolverine has been the backbone of the franchise and was the foundation of X-Men: Days of Future Past, which knit the past and current casts.  The problem is that Hugh Jackman is, after waffling back and forth, pretty set on only doing one more solo Wolverine film and then he’s done.  My understanding was that he was also going to be in X-Men: Apocalypse, because DOFP left Wolverine in a very odd cliffhanger that wouldn’t seem resolvable in a solo film (which from everything I hear is going to somehow adapt Mark Millar’s “Old Man Logan” storyline).  The trailer gives no indication of Wolverine’s involvement and, combined with seven previous films of bendy time continuity, has me worried that the franchise may have reached critical mass.  Don’t let that stop you from examining these host of photos from the trailer and the very cool first poster for the film, which is due to release May 26, 2015.
