Top 10: Superhero Movie Duels

This video from WatchMojo is a few years old, so it can be forgiven some of the glaring omissions in their list and the weird inclusion of things like the Thomas Jane Punisher film or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990 style).  Obviously things like Civil War, Man of Steel and Thor: Ragnarok should now be on this list.  I’m a little baffled as to even from the Reeve years, how a Superman III entry made this list.  To be honest, though I normally hail WatchMojo’s lists, this one is kind of a puzzle to me, and I would probably only include three or four of their picks on my list.  The film, again, that definitely is missing is Captain America: Civil War in which you could pick the brawl at the airport or the final fight between Cap and Iron Man or BOTH.  What’s missing from here for you?  Ok, what’s MOST OBVIOUSLY missing here for you.

Top 10: Saddest Superhero Movie Deaths

For comic book characters, death isn’t quite the final condition it is for the rest of us.  It’s more of an annoying flu that sidelines them for a few years at most before they find a way to kick it.  WatchMojo has put together a list of the 10 saddest superhero deaths in which the condition stuck (it also included supporting characters on the list, and given the subject matter it goes without saying that this is a SPOILER intensive list.

Most of the entries come from films outside the MCU and DCEU, both of which have been pretty merciful to characters so far (unless they were underdeveloped villains).  I have a feeling that the MCU’s mercy, at least, is going to change with Avengers 3 & 4 in a big way, but most of the entries on this list come from X-Men, Spider-Man, and pre-DCEU Batman installments.  While I agree with a lot of the choices (and the rule that no one resurrected should be included), choosing The Amazing Spider-Man 2 or X-Men: Apocalypse over Watchmen struck me as a particularly grievous oversight.  I definitely agree with #1, but I think there should be two entrants from Logan on the list.  What traumas did you find left out?  Let’s grieve together, people!

POLL RESULTS: What’s the Best Spidey Movie?

In the contest for “Best Spider-Man Movie”, KT readers have dubbed the newest the best.  Spider-Man: Homecoming is the sixth Spider-Man movie since Tobey Maguire first started slinging webs in 2002.  He and Sam Raimi made three films before the franchise was rebooted with Andrew Garfield and Marc Webb in 2012.  Then, following the disastrous The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in 2014, Sony decided to lease Spider-Man back to Marvel so Spider-Man could make his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a small role in 2015’s Captain America: Civil War.  Holland rolled that perfect performance as the wall crawler into a spectacular feature debut that is closing in on $700 million globally.  It was only ever a contest between Homecoming and Spider-Man 2 (which, to my mind, are the only good Spider-Man films).  Homecoming was dominating the poll for most of the month, but held off a late charge from Raimi’s best film to win 46% to 38%.  Spider-Man and even The Amazing Spider-Man got some votes, but not a single bit of love for Spider-Man 3 or The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (so good going, guys, I don’t have to lecture you lol).  Look for a new poll soon, thank you so much for voting, and start thinking about September when we have our 5th Annual Best Show on TV Poll!  Will The Flash defend, or will we have a fifth different show in five years?

POLL: What’s the Best Spidey Movie?

My Favorite Scene: Spider-Man 2 “The Train Fight”

While I’m not a huge fan of Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy on its own, there’s no denying that Spider-Man 2 is the best Spider-Man film made up-to-now and one of the best super hero films period.   Continue reading My Favorite Scene: Spider-Man 2 “The Train Fight”
