Top 10: Most Controversial Superhero Movie Moments Pts. 1 & 2

We have, at this point, dozens and dozens of superhero films.  I think you could stack the overall quality of the genre against any other in filmdom, but that doesn’t mean we haven’t had our share of devastating missteps along the way.  Watch Mojo has two videos categorizing the most egregious times comic book movies deviated from the source material or were poorly received by fans.  The greatest hits are here: Spider-Man 3’s disco striding evil Peter, Iron Man 3’s Mandarin switcheroo, Superman II’s amnesia kiss, and Batman vs. Superman’s Martha madness.  Some of their entries feel like stretches.  Yes, The Killing Joke was an abomination, but were people overly upset Thor: Ragnarok was funny?  X-Men Origins: Wolverine’s treatment of Deadpool was awful, but did anyone actually expect more than what we got out of Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (the Bay edition)?  What moments are missing from WM’s lists?

POLL RESULTS: What’s the Best Spidey Movie?

In the contest for “Best Spider-Man Movie”, KT readers have dubbed the newest the best.  Spider-Man: Homecoming is the sixth Spider-Man movie since Tobey Maguire first started slinging webs in 2002.  He and Sam Raimi made three films before the franchise was rebooted with Andrew Garfield and Marc Webb in 2012.  Then, following the disastrous The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in 2014, Sony decided to lease Spider-Man back to Marvel so Spider-Man could make his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a small role in 2015’s Captain America: Civil War.  Holland rolled that perfect performance as the wall crawler into a spectacular feature debut that is closing in on $700 million globally.  It was only ever a contest between Homecoming and Spider-Man 2 (which, to my mind, are the only good Spider-Man films).  Homecoming was dominating the poll for most of the month, but held off a late charge from Raimi’s best film to win 46% to 38%.  Spider-Man and even The Amazing Spider-Man got some votes, but not a single bit of love for Spider-Man 3 or The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (so good going, guys, I don’t have to lecture you lol).  Look for a new poll soon, thank you so much for voting, and start thinking about September when we have our 5th Annual Best Show on TV Poll!  Will The Flash defend, or will we have a fifth different show in five years?

POLL: What’s the Best Spidey Movie?

Spider-Man: Homecoming is the sixth Spider-Man movie since Tobey Maguire first started slinging webs in 2002.  He and Sam Raimi made three films before the franchise was rebooted with Andrew Garfield and Marc Webb in 2012.  Then, following the disastrous The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in 2014 (seriously if you vote for that I wish I could find a way to deliver an electric shock to your brain), Sony decided to lease Spider-Man back to Marvel so Spider-Man could make his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a small role in 2015’s Captain America: Civil War.  Sony and Marvel’s lease agreement on Spider-Man runs through the sequel to Homecoming (scheduled for May 2020).  Which has been your favorite film featuring the Wall Crawler so far?  Cast your vote, and at the end of July we’ll anoint the best Spider-Man film of them all!

My Favorite Scene: Spider-Man 3 – “The Birth of Sandman”

Spider-Man 3 is not as bad as you remember it.  Somehow, in the seven years since its release, Spidey 3 has become the Batman & Robin of modern comic movies.  I saw Batman & Robin in the theatre.  I left in a homicidal rage.  I also saw Spider-Man 3 in the theatre and it’s not responsible for any cold cases.
