POLL RESULTS: What’s the Best Spidey Movie?

In the contest for “Best Spider-Man Movie”, KT readers have dubbed the newest the best.  Spider-Man: Homecoming is the sixth Spider-Man movie since Tobey Maguire first started slinging webs in 2002.  He and Sam Raimi made three films before the franchise was rebooted with Andrew Garfield and Marc Webb in 2012.  Then, following the disastrous The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in 2014, Sony decided to lease Spider-Man back to Marvel so Spider-Man could make his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a small role in 2015’s Captain America: Civil War.  Holland rolled that perfect performance as the wall crawler into a spectacular feature debut that is closing in on $700 million globally.  It was only ever a contest between Homecoming and Spider-Man 2 (which, to my mind, are the only good Spider-Man films).  Homecoming was dominating the poll for most of the month, but held off a late charge from Raimi’s best film to win 46% to 38%.  Spider-Man and even The Amazing Spider-Man got some votes, but not a single bit of love for Spider-Man 3 or The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (so good going, guys, I don’t have to lecture you lol).  Look for a new poll soon, thank you so much for voting, and start thinking about September when we have our 5th Annual Best Show on TV Poll!  Will The Flash defend, or will we have a fifth different show in five years?

POLL: What’s the Best Spidey Movie?

Spider-Man: Homecoming is the sixth Spider-Man movie since Tobey Maguire first started slinging webs in 2002.  He and Sam Raimi made three films before the franchise was rebooted with Andrew Garfield and Marc Webb in 2012.  Then, following the disastrous The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in 2014 (seriously if you vote for that I wish I could find a way to deliver an electric shock to your brain), Sony decided to lease Spider-Man back to Marvel so Spider-Man could make his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a small role in 2015’s Captain America: Civil War.  Sony and Marvel’s lease agreement on Spider-Man runs through the sequel to Homecoming (scheduled for May 2020).  Which has been your favorite film featuring the Wall Crawler so far?  Cast your vote, and at the end of July we’ll anoint the best Spider-Man film of them all!

Sinister Six Will Be the Next Spider-Man Film; AMS3 Coming in 2018!

Sinister Six My enthusiasm for Columbia Pictures’ “Spidey-verse” evaporated with the abomination that was Amazing Spider-Man 2.  AMS 2 is also the lowest-grossing movie in the franchise’s history, but that isn’t stopping them from pushing ahead, though it seems it has shaken up their release schedule.

Drew Goddard’s Sinister Six movie, featuring the villains in Spider-Man’s rogues gallery, will be the next film released and not Amazing Spider-Man 3.  Perhaps they decided they needed to retool after the AMS2 backlash, or maybe Goddard was just more ready to go, but Sinister Six will release November 11, 2016.  The Amazing Spider-Man 3 has been pushed back to 2018 (four years is a long time for a hero supposedly in his teens; wonder what kind of time jump in the story they’ll take).  No word on the rumored Venom spin-off film.

I was done with this all after AMS2, but might be tempted back if Goddard can right the ship with a unique film from the villains’ perspective.

The Green Goblin Revealed in Amazing Spider-Man 2 Pic

I think any doubt that Harry Osborn is going full Goblin in Amazing Spider-Man 2 has been dispelled by this latest released photo.  I think the Osborns are going to be the real villains of this film and the stuff with Electro and Rhino has been a smokescreen.  Not that they’re not in it or a big part, but I think this is more an Oscorp movie than it is “Electro’s movie”.  I don’t know how I feel about the Goblin look.  I also think this may be very nascent Goblin and we’ll get a different, more classic look in AMS 3.  This doesn’t leave much doubt though.  Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens May 2nd.

Trailer Time: The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Trailer #2 “Enemies Unite” (2014)

I was just going to post the other half of the Amazing Spidey 2 trailer from the game, but this morning Sony has released those combined trailers with new footage for a trailer entitled “Enemies Unite”.  Essentially telling the origin of Electro from the film, then moving on to the gestating Sinister Six.  I’ve gone from total skeptic to radically on-board over the last year and now I just need to see this thing.  This is a fantastic trailer and never did I think they could make Electro cool.  I live in a world where Whiplash and Electro were played by Oscar-winners…..whaaaaaaaaat?  Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens May 2, 2014.
