Top 10: Superhero Movie Duels

This video from WatchMojo is a few years old, so it can be forgiven some of the glaring omissions in their list and the weird inclusion of things like the Thomas Jane Punisher film or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990 style).  Obviously things like Civil War, Man of Steel and Thor: Ragnarok should now be on this list.  I’m a little baffled as to even from the Reeve years, how a Superman III entry made this list.  To be honest, though I normally hail WatchMojo’s lists, this one is kind of a puzzle to me, and I would probably only include three or four of their picks on my list.  The film, again, that definitely is missing is Captain America: Civil War in which you could pick the brawl at the airport or the final fight between Cap and Iron Man or BOTH.  What’s missing from here for you?  Ok, what’s MOST OBVIOUSLY missing here for you.

The Punisher Season One Trailer #3 (Netflix – 2017) “The Only Person You’re Punishing Is Yourself”

I’m not sure why they’re calling this the second trailer when it’s actually the third (I can never tell what’s a teaser and what’s a trailer any more).  The Punisher looks like it’s locked and ready to rock on the FINALLY revealed release date of November 17, 2017, all 13 episodes posting at midnight on Netflix.  The third trailer gives a better idea of how they’re going to continue his story past the initial revenge for his family (because Frank’s crusade is never going to be done; in a lot of ways he’s Batman if he let himself just completely loose of his code).  Metallica is apparently The Punisher’s official band, and I can’t see anything wrong with that.  This looks like it’s going to kick off the next era of MCU on Netflix with (wait for it) a bang. Read Coming Soon’s plot synopsis below.

After exacting revenge on those responsible for the death of his wife and children, Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) uncovers a conspiracy that runs far deeper than New York’s criminal underworld. Now known throughout the city as The Punisher, he must discover the truth about injustices that affect more than his family alone.

The series is executive produced by showrunner Steve Lightfoot (Hannibal), Jim Chory (Marvel’s The Defenders) and Jeph Loeb (Marvel’s The Defenders), who also serves as Marvel’s Head of Television. Marvel’s The Punisher is produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios for Netflix.

The cast also features Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Girls, The Lake House), Deborah Ann Woll (Marvel’s Daredevil, True Blood), Ben Barnes (Westworld, The Chronicles of Narnia), Amber Rose Revah (Emerald City, Indian Summers), Michael Nathanson (The Knick, The Wolf of Wall Street), Jaime Ray Newman (Bates Motel), Jason R Moore (A Lonely Place for Dying), Daniel Webber (11.22.63) and Paul Schulze (Nurse Jackie).

The Punisher Season One Trailer #2 (Netflix – 2017) “The Truth Must Be Taken”

The second trailer for Netflix’s fifth Marvel series: The Punisher is out and, fittingly set to some Metallica, Frank Castle is back.  I’ve been reading a lot of interesting things about the take they’re going with on Frank; that they’ll be looking into the effects of his family’s killing and his crusade, but also getting into the head of a man who, while he has a code, is a mass murderer; walking capital punishment.  But what his crusade becomes beyond revenge for his family and his mental status overall, we got to see a little of in Daredevil Season Two, and I think this is going to be the best exploration of the character yet.  Netflix is still being coy about the exact release date, but Den of Geek is reporting it as November 2017.  Read Coming Soon’s plot synopsis below.

The Punisher Season 1 Trailer #1 (Netflix – 2017) “Coming to Collect”

Now that The Defenders is over and the original plan for the Marvel Cinematic Universe on Netflix has run its course (awesomely), what’s next?  Well, all four original series are getting new seasons; the third for Daredevil and second for Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist (who was much better in The Defenders than his own series).  In addition, a fifth show is joining the rotation in The Punisher, likely to debut on the streaming service this November.  Personally, I would have combined Luke Cage and Iron Fist into a Heroes for Hire show.  They’d have had a much deeper supporting cast and story possibilities than isolating them.  However, now that all of New York’s street-level crime fighters know each other, crossovers between the shows may become more frequent. Trailer Time: Iron Fist Season 1 Trailer #2 (2017 – Netflix) *The Last Defender*

*Text from Coming Soon
The Netflix original series Marvel’s Iron Fist is the fourth of the epic live-action adventure series (Marvel’s Daredevil, Marvel’s Jessica Jones and Marvel’s Luke Cage which are now streaming, all leading up to the teaming of the main characters in Marvel’s The Defenders) to premiere only on Netflix. A fifth series, Marvel’s The Punisher, has also started filming and stars Jon Bernthal.

In Marvel’s Iron Fist, billionaire Danny Rand (Finn Jones) returns to New York City after being missing for years, trying to reconnect with his past and his family legacy. He fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist.

The Marvel’s Iron Fist cast includes Finn Jones as Danny Rand aka Iron Fist, with Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing, David Wenham as Harold Meachum, Jessica Stroup as Joy Meachum, and Tom Pelphrey as Ward Meachum. Marvel’s Jessica Jones star Carrie-Anne Moss will also reprise her role of lawyer Jeri Hogarth alongside Netflix’s connector between the shows, Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple.

Marvel’s Iron Fist premieres with 13 episodes on Netflix on March 17, 2017 at 12:01am PT in all territories where Netflix is available.
