I am not a fan of director Eli Roth. I think he’s a torture porn peddler. Was that clear enough? It’s not like Death Wish needed a remake…any of them, but if you’re going to remake it and “remiagine” it, as MGM puts it, guess what you’re going to get when you put Eli Roth in charge of it. Yeeeeah. There was a reason this was not placed on the “Most Anticipated Fall Films Poll”. Bruce Willis, you’re lucky you’re working on Unbreakable 2, because between this and a lot of direct to video movies you’ve been doing lately, I’d be willing to call your career pretty much done. Death Wish also starsde Vincent D’Onofrio, Elisabeth Shue, Camila Morrone, Dean Norris and Kimberly Elise. Death Wish opens November 22, 2017, in case you thought this went well with turkey. Hollywood has gone so remake crazy that it is literally eating its own tail at this point. There may be multiple versions of every movie ever made in a decade, but of all the ridiculous, stupid, and offensive attempts to present a new take on a classic film, The Magnificent Seven is not an offender. The original film with Yul Bruyner is now 56 years old, the Western genre is much better at remakes/reinventions than most (True Grit, for example), and this isn’t an attempt to update or override the classic. The 1960 film is, itself, a reinterpretation of Akira Kurosawa’s The Seven Samurai, so unlike most remakes, this story has already lent itself to reinterpretation. It’s a Magnificent Seven for a new generation, and while it’s not quite magnificent, it is enjoyable. Continue reading Movie Review: The Magnifcent Seven (2016) *So Far So Good?*
Each Thursday we look at what is going to be coming out in theaters this weekend, show you the trailers for the big releases, predict the box office winner and just generally give you enough of a carrot to pull you through the rest of the work week. September 23rd gives us ANOTHER remake, an animated release, and a film where Kate Winslet makes dresses (called The Dressmaker…..s’how I knew). Continue reading In Theaters This Week (9/23/2016) – The Magnificent Seven, Storks, The Dressmaker
I’m not a particular fan of Antoine Fuqua’s work as a director, but Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt will get me to a movie theater even for a movie that did not need a remake (but when does that stop anyone these days? Details below courtesy of Geek Tyrant. Continue reading Trailer Time: The Magnifcent Seven Teaser #1 (2016) *Denzel and Star Lord Go WEST!*
Yes, I did already do a MFS on Daredevil Season One. But COME ON! It’s 13 episodes and we’re getting 13 more on Friday, so what else could I choose? The fights on Arrow were the bar for fight choreography on TV (and they are restricted by broadcast TV), but Daredevil came along and kicked that bar up so high that I can’t wait to see them try to top it in season 2. It will post 12:01 a.m. on Friday March 18th, and I’ve included the final trailer below. DAREDEVIL!!!!
