Venom Teaser Trailer #1 (2018) *A Venomless Venom Trailer*

Sony has released the first teaser for Venom and it’s a true teaser, giving very little away about the film.  Venom, butchered in Spider-Man 3, is one of the most popular villains/anti-heroes (depending on the host) in Marvel Comics, and Tom Hardy is a great choice to embody that.  I’m not sure what Sony intends with its Spider-Man-free Spiderverse.  I think rather than give Tom Holland up, Disney would rather buy Sony at this point.  What we do know about the film is summarized by Coming Soon below.  The film also stars Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Jenny Slate, and Woody Harrelson.  Venom will hit theaters October 5, 2018.

Solo: A Star Wars Story Teaser #1 (2018) *Nerf Herder: Year One*

Solo: A Star Wars Story has had a troubled production (to say the least), and follows on the heels of the financially successful but fan-dividing Star Wars: The Last Jedi.  We got a sneak peek of the 10th Star Wars film last night at the Super Bowl, but Lucasfilm has released the full first teaser today and my reaction is……ok.  It looks great.  There aren’t any fist-pumping moments for me.  I’m not sold on Alden Ehrenreich as Solo.  The plot seems to be standard caper fare, but at this point, who really knows?  I’m less excited about this film than any Star Wars film since Episode II so my expectations are rather low.  I hope I’m wrong.  I want to be wrong.  The teaser doesn’t really give me enough information to make a decision one way or another.  Read below for Coming Soon’s summary.  Solo: A Star Wars Story is coming to theaters Memorial Day. Woody Harrelson’s 10 Best Movies

Woody Harrelson

Woody Harrelson is incredibly underrated as one of the most versatile and talented dramatic and comedic actors of his generation, both on the big and small screens.  In 1985, Cheers faced a casting crisis when beloved actor Nicholas Colasanto died.  To replace him behind the bar, they cast an unknown young Woody Harrelson who only went on to be Emmy nominated six times for playing Woody Boyd: Cheers‘ clueless and lovable little brother.  But in the 25 years since Cheers‘ end, Harrelson has put together one of the most impressive resumes of any actor working.  His range is astounding: from goofball to serial killer to an impressive series of military and law enforcement characters (both good and evil) and back again to goofball.  There are some performers for whom it’s a struggle to put together 10 pieces of work and an honorable mention.  Woody could have had a whole second list, and he’s only continuing to get better. Han Solo Movie Wraps; Official Title Announced

It’s not brain surgery, but it’s an elegant title.  The second anthology film will be called Solo: A Star Wars Story.  Director Ron Howard announced the title today as principal photography has wrapped.  While I’m enormously excited and positive regarding The Last Jedi (which opens in only 59 days), I have a lot of trepidation regarding Solo.  A lot of them stem from the weird firing of original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller (click here to read more on that).  To some degree, I-like a lot of Star Wars fans-can’t imagine anyone but Harrison Ford as the smuggler, and I don’t have enough confidence in Alden Ehrenreich to overcome that prejudice.  I DO think Donald Glover will destroy a young Lando Clarissian.  What makes me most nervous about the film is how Disney has refused to budge on the May 23, 2018, release date.  That’s not a lot of time to smooth out the wrinkles on a film with a troubled production history PLUS do all the massive amount of post-production work that is required in any Star Wars film.  But say all that goes GREAT and the film is fantastic…..I still think Disney is setting it up to fail. War for the Planet of the Apes Blu Ray Special Features and Release Date

War for the Planet of the Apes

Sadly, with July as packed as it was, War for the Planet of the Apes seems to have gotten lost in the shuffle, doing much worse than Dawn for the Planet of the Apes or its July blockbuster brethren: Dunkirk and Spider-Man.  This was an exceptional film (read my review here), and if you missed it in the theaters, it looks like the blu ray has been packed with goodies.  Check out one of the best films of 2017, and the cap one one of the best science fiction trilogies of all-time.  For full details on specs, read Fox’s press release below.

Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on 4K Blu-ray3D Blu-ray, and Blu-ray director Matt Reeves’ blockbuster War for the Planet of the Apes (2017), starring Andy Serkis, Woody Harrelson, Steve Zahn, Judy Greer, and Karin Konoval. The three releases will be available for purchase on October 24.
