Trailer Time: Star Wars Battlefront II (2017 – Xbox, Playstation)

The original Star Wars Battlefront games had single player modes that were integral to the enjoyment of the game, and DICE made a big mistake omitting a campaign from its revival of the franchise.  Normally video game trailers don’t come on the site until launch, but we are all Star Wars geeks, and Star Wars video games are canon now (the first Battlefront is how the brought back Boba Fett post ROTJ).  This campaign reveal looks amazingly epic, spanning the destruction of the second Death Star to the rise of The First Order.  I was not pleased with the multiplayer-only first installment, but this trailer has me changing my mind.  Read more below from Coming Soon for all the details. Mass Effect: Andromeda Complete Achievement/Trophy List (Xbox, PS – 2017)

Despite the controversial end to the trilogy, Mass Effect remains one of the greatest RPG achievements of the past two console generations, so a new entry to the series is one of the three biggest games of 2017 (the others being the new Zelda and Red Dead Redemption 2 this fall).  Those with EA Access have already been exploring the Andromeda galaxy since yesterday, and so far, the game (aside from the slightly creepy face texture they’ll eventually get around to patching) takes the best gameplay from the trilogy and adds a heightened focus on discovery and exploration.  My first time playing the game, I didn’t move for six hours and I started at 1:30 a.m. (I’m not advising that).  If an RPG (and there are sadly fewer and fewer) is made by Bethesda or Bioware, it’s worth the dozens if not hundreds of hours you devote to it.  In a game like this, achievements are almost beside the point (did I say that?), but as always the complete list is below courtesy of the Internet’s Mass Effect Relay for Cheevo Hunters: xboxachievements.com.  Mass Effect: Andromeda will be available to all gamers on Playstation, PC, and Xbox One this Tuesday. For Honor – Complete Achievement List (Xbox One, PC – 2017)

I’m going to be totally honest…..I have no idea what’s going on with For Honor.  I’ve watched it develop since E3 and the entire idea seems to be, “What if knights, samurais, and vikings just started whomping on each other?”  Could be a lot more complex.  Maybe there’s an angsty viking who just wants to prove to his samurai dad and knight mom that he’s just as darn good as the rest of the….no there’s not, but you probably get to whack each other with period appropriate weaponry.  Ubisoft’s For Honor is an Xbox/Windows 10 exclusive and is out today.  Cheevos below courtesy, as always, from the peerless, the wondrous, the needy gamer’s sanctum online: xboxachievements.com. Resident Evil VII: Biohazard – Complete Achievement and Trophy List (Xbox, Playstation – 2017)

Beginning with Resident Evil 4 (which is still one of the best games of all-time), the Resident Evil  series moved away from the earlier “survival horror” games and more toward generic action, which by the sixth entry had made the series feel like it lost its roots.  With the seventh installment, it looks like we’re going right back to the beginning: a creepy house and you scared out of your mind.  I remember playing the first Resident Evil with my friend on a huge TV (in the dark of course), and-because I don’t know its real name-what we dubbed “The LICKER” dropped down from the ceiling to kill us and we RAN. OUT. OF. THE. HOUSE.  I don’t generally like things designed to scare since the world is scary enough (and I can pretty much guarantee you that the last Resident Evil movie which not-so-coincidentally releases on Friday) isn’t going to scare you.  But Resident Evil VII Biohazard.….um, it looks terrifying.  Full cheevos below as always courtesy of the best site for achievement needy gamers: xboxachievements.com. Trailer Time: Assassin’s Creed Trailer #3 (2016) *Blood Will Win Out*

The final trailer for Assassin’s Creed is, also in my opinion, the best we’ve seen so far.  The last trailer was awful; the first trailer was extremely promising, and now this leaves things on a hopeful note that we’ll finally get a good film out of a video game franchise.  The plot as explained in the film is essentially the plot of the first game in the franchise only with a different protagonist and historical setting.  The look of everything (with the exception of making The Animus a little more exciting than the table it is in the games) is true to the series, and the plot seems dead-on.  My biggest reason for being worried is that this is getting little to no marketing push.  Compared to Passengers, which it opens against, you barely hear about this film.  I’ve analyzed this industry enough to know that if they really felt they had something that could go up against Passengers and Rogue One in its second week, we’d be seeing advertising everywhere.  I hope I’m wrong, because AC is my favorite video game franchise and with it’s material and the caliber of actors, if this falls flat….maybe video games really can’t be adapted for the screen.  Assassin’s Creed opens December 21, 2016.
