My Favorite Scene: Jumanji – Welcome to the Jungle (2017) “Strengths and Weaknesses”

Making a “great video game” movie has become an annual rite of failure for Hollywood.  For whatever reason, even games that have great storytelling and visuals on home consoles can’t be adapted competently on to the big screen.  Just this year Tomb Raider and Ready Player One whiffed in trying to translate.  I think the best video game movie currently is actually a sequel to a movie based on a kids’ book: 2017’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.

Welcome to the Jungle uses all the conventions of video games: limited lives, character skills, levels, bosses, NPCs, cut scenes, and more to push the plot along a fast-paced, comedic action roller coaster.  If the plot is thin…..well so are most video games, and every one of the characters is more than aware that they’re trapped within one.  It doesn’t waste time trying to be more than what it is, and mainly the entire jungle serves as a showcase for the movie’s true star: their four leads’ complete and utter dorkiness within their host bodies.  My favorite exploration of the movie/game space is when the four character discover how to read their character’s stat sheets and discover the strengths and weaknesses (mostly weaknesses for Kevin Hart) of their flesh prisons.Jumanji Welcome to the Jungle Poster

Tekken 7 – Complete Achievement and Trophy List (Xbox, Playstation – 2017)

Tekken has never really been my favorite fighting franchise (and, to be honest, I think I’m going to destroy my arms playing Injustice 2 over the next few months), but it’s a venerable institution in the fighting genre going back decades now.  The seventh installment has just released for Xbox One and Playstation 4, and below is your complete guide to achievements, courtesy as always from the InterTubes best site for achievement addicts: xboxachievements.com. Site Note: KT Undergoing Upgrade

Greetings, Time Killers!  You may have noticed some tweaks to the home page.  I’m moving some things around, trying some new things, and so if stuff looks wonky….I’m probably in the middle of messing the entire site up.  Perfectly normal.  One thing to note for people who read the Word Press page only, I’ve divided up the workload because I spend 1-2 hours a day on this blog and I can’t get to everything.  Casting news, posters, pictures, and general news will get published to the Facebook page (www.facebook.com/killingtime2014) or to the Twitter feed (@sleeplessdave), which now displays the last 10 news items on the site for those who hate Facebook and Twitter (there are enough of you that I am writing this, so you know who you are).  The addition of the Twitter widget will give WP site only readers the same kind of total access the Facebook horde gets.  The things I do for you all.  Keep stabbing minutes, you wacky little wombats, you!

Movie Review: Resident Evil 6 – The Final Chapter (2017) “It’s Over! Wait, What?”

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, Milla Jovovich, Ali Larter
Well, after six movies and 15 years, the Resident Evil movie saga is finally ov….wait, they announced a week after the last movie hit Blu Ray that they’re rebooting the whole franchise?  NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!  So….yes, Sony has already announced that Resident Evil is being rebooted and James Wan is talks to oversee.  Why would this happen when this movie (which I promise we’ll actually get around to discussing soon) bombed spectacularly in the United States?  Well, that would be entirely because the movie made a sarcastically absurd amount of money in China, bringing the overall gross of the franchise to $1.2 billion and Sony doesn’t do original ideas, so in a few years, we’ll have The Umbrella Corporation, the T-Virus, zombies, and people shooting zombies back in theaters.  But since I am a completionist and made myself finish out the series with the “final” chapter.  How did things go?  We’re still waiting for that first great video game movie.  But on the upside, you still have a few days left to find another way to celebrate National Zombie Awareness Month (yes, I’m serious). Prey – Complete Achievement and Trophy List (Xbox One, PS4 – 2017)

Prey’s not really looking like my cup of tea, but Bethesda does have a sterling track record, so if any KTers pick this up, let me know how you’re liking or not liking it.  This, by the way, has nothing to do with the game of the same name featuring a Native American protagonist from the last console generation.  Prey’s already out for PS4 and Xbox One.  Complete achievement list below courtesy of the peerless xboxachievements.com.
