Trailer Time: Warcraft Trailer #2 (2016) *Can Warcraft Break the Video Game Curse?*

It’s a bit of an understatement to say that video games haven’t exactly translated well onto film in the past. 2016 could be the year all that changes with Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard’s Assassin’s Creed and the Duncan Jones-directed Warcraft.  I’m so happy there’s a second trailer out for the film if, for no other reason, I’ve been seriously pounded with the first one in every movie I’ve attended for months.

Azeroth looks fully-realized and Warcraft a totally immersive fantasy film.  What troubles me are the humans.  The acting…is not stellar in the trailers.  So can the world and the story overcome a mediocre cast, or are we just going to have to wait for Fassbender to assassinate the video game/movie curse this fall?  Warcraft opens June 10, 2016.

Trailer Time: Warcraft Trailer #2 (2016) *War is Coming!*

Warcraft is a film that a lot of people are looking at as a potential bust in a crowded summer.  I’ve loved what I’ve seen of the fantasy epic thus far, and director Duncan Jones (The Source Code, Moon) has never steered me wrong before.  World of Warcraft has a global fan base that will certainly respond to a movie that does justice to the MMORPG, but can Warcraft break the video game movie adaptation curse that’s dogged attempts to translate the interactive medium to the big screen?  We’ll find out when Warcraft opens wide on June 10, 2016.

My Favorite Scene: 42 (2013) “Why Are You Doing This?”

I’ve been following Chadwick Boseman since 42 and his fantastic portrayal of Jackie Robinson, then later in Get on Up as he BECAME James Brown.  I mention this, because by the end of the year, Boseman is going to be a star because of his role as Black Panther in Captain America: Civil War.  A lot of people avoid sports movies if they’re not particularly sports fans, but 42 cannot be missed.  Not only does it tell an important American story, but it introduces someone who I think will be a major star, and gives Harrison Ford maybe his best supporting role in his long and illustrious career. Trailer Time: Warcraft Trailer #1 (2016) *HOLY AZEROTH!!!*

It’s a bit of an understatement to say that video games haven’t exactly translated well onto film in the past. 2016 could be the year all that changes with Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard’s Assassin’s Creed and the Duncan Jones-directed Warcraft. BlizzCon gave us our first look at the latter film, based on the MMORPG World of Warcraft and it’s nothing short of jaw-dropping.  If they can capture the story and world (because the look they have COLD) that has kept millions of gamers wandering the world of Azeroth for a decade then 2016’s summer just got a new must-see film. This trailer is flat out fantasy joy.

My Favorite Scene: Spider-Man 2 “The Train Fight”

While I’m not a huge fan of Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy on its own, there’s no denying that Spider-Man 2 is the best Spider-Man film made up-to-now and one of the best super hero films period.   Continue reading My Favorite Scene: Spider-Man 2 “The Train Fight”
