Luke Cage Season 2 Trailer #1 (2018-Netflix) *Hero Is Your Word, Not Mine.*

After clearing his name, Luke Cage has become a celebrity on the streets of Harlem with a reputation as bulletproof as his skin. But being so visible has only increased his need to protect the community and find the limits of who he can and can’t save. With the rise of a formidable new foe, Luke is forced to confront the fine line that separates a hero from a villain.

Mike Colter returns as the titular Luke Cage, with Simone Missick as Misty Knight, Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple, Alfre Woodard as Mariah Dillard, Theo Rossi as Shades and Finn Jones as Danny Rand aka Iron Fist. Newcomers to the series so far include Mustafa Shakir (The Deuce, The Night Of) as John McIver, a natural leader, brimming with charisma, whose mission is focused on Harlem and vengeance; and Gabrielle Dennis (Insecure, Rosewood) as Tilda Johnson, a brilliant, holistic doctor with a complicated history in Harlem where, as much as she tries to stay far from trouble, it seems to always find her.

The second season is executive produced by series showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker (Ray Donovan), Jim Chory (Marvel’s Jessica Jones), and Jeph Loeb (Marvel’s Jessica Jones), who also serves as Marvel’s Head of Television.

Marvel’s Luke Cage returns June 22.

Movie Review: The Cloverfield Paradox (2018) *A Paradoxical Slog*

Ziyi Zhang and Daniel Bruhl in The Cloverfield Paradox
In an era where movies are heralded and marketed years in advance, the Cloverfield franchise is an outlier as the films tend to drop fully formed out of the blue with little to no warning.  However, even for this franchise, it was a surprise during Superbowl LII to learn that the third film in the franchise was done, was being released on Netflix, and would be ready for streaming as soon as the game was complete.  10 Cloverfield Lane was one of the best surprises in recent years, so I was hoping that, despite Netflix’s touch with movies, the sci-fi anthology franchise would continue its hot streak.  That….is unfortunately not what happens in The Cloverfield Paradox. Jessica Jones Season Two Trailer #1 (2018) *Alias Investigations Re-Opens*

Jessica Jones Season 2 was filmed back-to-back with The Defenders, so it’s no surprise that it looks like it’ll be the next foray into the MCU/Netflix-verse.  Season one of the show stands right next to Daredevil’s first season as the best of the Netflix series, but it also used Jones’ most powerful storyline and only real villain in David Tenant’s Killgrave.  It looks like season two will find Jones questioning how she got her abilities and, if I were to venture a guess, drinking a lot and throwing people through walls.  How many doors will Alias Investigations go through in season two when Jessica Jones Season Two premieres on Netflix on March 8, 2018?

The Punisher Season One Trailer #3 (Netflix – 2017) “The Only Person You’re Punishing Is Yourself”

I’m not sure why they’re calling this the second trailer when it’s actually the third (I can never tell what’s a teaser and what’s a trailer any more).  The Punisher looks like it’s locked and ready to rock on the FINALLY revealed release date of November 17, 2017, all 13 episodes posting at midnight on Netflix.  The third trailer gives a better idea of how they’re going to continue his story past the initial revenge for his family (because Frank’s crusade is never going to be done; in a lot of ways he’s Batman if he let himself just completely loose of his code).  Metallica is apparently The Punisher’s official band, and I can’t see anything wrong with that.  This looks like it’s going to kick off the next era of MCU on Netflix with (wait for it) a bang. Read Coming Soon’s plot synopsis below.

After exacting revenge on those responsible for the death of his wife and children, Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) uncovers a conspiracy that runs far deeper than New York’s criminal underworld. Now known throughout the city as The Punisher, he must discover the truth about injustices that affect more than his family alone.

The series is executive produced by showrunner Steve Lightfoot (Hannibal), Jim Chory (Marvel’s The Defenders) and Jeph Loeb (Marvel’s The Defenders), who also serves as Marvel’s Head of Television. Marvel’s The Punisher is produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios for Netflix.

The cast also features Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Girls, The Lake House), Deborah Ann Woll (Marvel’s Daredevil, True Blood), Ben Barnes (Westworld, The Chronicles of Narnia), Amber Rose Revah (Emerald City, Indian Summers), Michael Nathanson (The Knick, The Wolf of Wall Street), Jaime Ray Newman (Bates Motel), Jason R Moore (A Lonely Place for Dying), Daniel Webber (11.22.63) and Paul Schulze (Nurse Jackie).

Stranger Things Season 2 Final Trailer (2017-Netflix) “It’s Judgment Day!”

It wouldn’t be Friday the 13th without a little spooky action, but we’ll forgo axe murderers for Demigorgons.  Stranger Things, probably the best non-MCU series that Netflix still has, finally returns for its second season on October 27, 2017, and the final trailer is awesome.  In a huge switch from the first season, the kids aren’t having to convince the town that horrible things are happening, because those horrible things aren’t staying locked up behind the walls of the creepy research lab any more.  The kids that are in this show, ten years from now, are going to be big stars in their own right, but the adult stars are lead by Winona Ryder and David Harbour.
