Gary Oldman in The Darkest Hour

Darkest Hour Trailer #1 (2017) “Never, Never Surrender!”

A thrilling and inspiring true story begins on the eve of World War II as, within days of becoming Prime Minister of Great Britain, Winston Churchill (Academy Award nominee Gary Oldman) must face one of his most turbulent and defining trials: exploring a negotiated peace treaty with Nazi Germany, or standing firm to fight for the ideals, liberty and freedom of a nation. As the unstoppable Nazi forces roll across Western Europe and the threat of invasion is imminent, and with an unprepared public, a skeptical King, and his own party plotting against him, Churchill must withstand his darkest hour, rally a nation, and attempt to change the course of world history.

The supporting cast of the film includes Kristin Scott Thomas, Lily James, Stephen Dillane, Ronald Pickup, and Ben Mendelsohn. Darkest Hour will be released on November 22, 2017.

  1. Gary Oldman playing Churchill? John Hurt as Neville Chamberlain? I think this is essential viewing.

How, pray tell, is Wright allowed to make movies? Because when I hear his name, it is no longer Atonement that springs to mind, it is an abomination so mind-bendingly complete that there was almost no precedent in my moviegoing life when I saw it. I think this movie about Churchill will probably be really good, but that is beside the point. Wright should no longer be permitted to use his iPhone to film his family opening presents on Christmas morning. Who is making descisions over in Hollywood? Are they all too distracted by thier exemplary stewardship of the DCEU to pay attention?

    1. I’m sorry, that was a little dark. I’m glad Dunkirk won’t have Churchill in it, it means this other film will do better. Earth is blessed because Churchill walked it. Everyone is obsessed with movies and superheroes and devices because they want to be distracted by the growing darkness, but when the darkness stares you right in the eyes you want to be more prepared than our culture is making us. I hope that at least a fraction of the people who go see Tarantino’s Charles Manson movie see Churchill too.

      1. I obviously meant to say that people have a need to be distracted FROM the growing darkness, not BY it.
