Trailer Time: Passengers Trailer #2 (2016) *Quite an Early Wake-Up Call*

I hope all had a wonderful Thanksgiving (I myself had an epic Filmsgiving that I will write up later in which I pulled a quad at the local cinema)!  I mention Filmsgiving (copyright pending) because in all four movies I saw (The Arrival, Hacksaw Ridge, The Edge of Seventeen, and Moana), they played the first trailer for Passengers.  Rogue One’s going to get its opening weekend, but both Passengers and Assassin’s Creed come out the next Friday and Passengers, especially, is getting a big ad push.  The second trailer for the film gives some more plot details, but is half the length so we’ll just have to find out the rest when Passengers opens December 23, 2016.  Official synopsis below:

On a routine journey through space to a new home, two passengers, sleeping in suspended animation, are awakened 90 years too early when their ship malfunctions. As Jim (Chris Pratt) and Aurora (Jennifer Lawrence) face living the rest of their lives on board, with every luxury they could ever ask for, they begin to fall for each other, unable to deny their intense attraction… until they discover the ship is in grave danger. With the lives of 5000 sleeping passengers at stake, only Jim and Aurora can save them all.
Passengers was directed by Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game) from a screenplay by Jon Spaihts (Prometheus).

Passengers, Chris Pratt, Jennifer Lawrence

Trailer Time: Passengers Trailer #1 (2016) *Star Lord & Katniss Go Space Traveling*

Rogue One is going to have much stiffer competition at the box office than last year’s Episode VII had.  In addition to Oscar films going from limited to wide release, Assassin’s Creed, A Monster Calls (which recently moved into the Christmas slot for better awards consideration), and now a stunning trailer for Passengers, which packs the star power of Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence.  Official synopsis below:

Trailer Time: Alice Through the Looking Glass IMAX Trailer *Sans the Tim Burton Intro*

Before my screening of Captain America: Civil War, I was treated to an IMAX 3D rendering of Tim Burton talking for a good minute about the above trailer.  This means for an entire minute I was looking at Tim Burton in the highest possible resolution, jutting from my screen like an electrified madman.  I, being the considerate soul that I am, found a cut of the trailer that excised the Burton and just gave you a look at Disney’s NEXT release (they’re printing them like commemorative coins this year) Alice Through the Looking Glass.

I’ve gone on ad nauseum about my feelings regarding the first film, and Tim Burton is not directing this outing, James Bobit (The Muppets) is.  They’re not following the plot of the second Carroll novel, since they sort of smushed the two books together in the first film.  So, while I admit this does look fantastic, I’m not sure that it can overcome the fact that Johnny Depp is in it and is beginning to look increasingly self-aware of his alien nature.  Regardless, it opens opposite X-Men: Apocalypse and the sure-to-be still potent juggernaut of Civil War.  This may be one Disney film that doesn’t make a billion dollars.  That’s ok.  Finding Dory comes out three weeks later. DISNEYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!

Trailer Time: Alice Through the Looking Glass Trailer #2 (2016) *And Then This Is Still Being Made*

I really liked about 85% of Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland and I went into the theater waiting for Johnny Depp to run off the rails and he and Burton to perform their mad mutual career destruction act.  I had quite forgotten all of that and was prepared to give it a good review when the FUTTERWACKING showed up and I don’t think I’ve seen something tank what could have been a good movie so badly at the end in my life.  So naturally there’s a sequel just around the corner.

From the write up below from Coming Soon, it doesn’t appear that this will in any way be following the plot of Lewis Carroll’s book. Also Sascha Baron Cohen is involved.  I want to be wrong, and there are some fantastic effects in the trailer, but I futterwackin’ won’t be.  Just wait.
