Ben Affleck to Write, Direct and Star in Solo Batman Movie

Batman, Ben Affleck, Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of JusticeI’m actually fine with this.  I did not think any of the performances, aside from Jesse Eisenberg’s worst comic movie villain since Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Mr. Freeze, was the problem in Batman vs. Superman.  The problem was Zach Snyder can’t direct and the script had SIX writers.  I’ll pick David Goyer and blame him since he’s written fantastic things.  I think the same situation is what tanked the 2003 Daredevil movie, not Affleck.  This time, especially, I feel sorry for him because he had to want to choke out Zach Snyder and scream I HAVE WON AN OSCAR FOR DOING YOUR JOB!!!  Affleck is a terrific director, has another Oscar for screenplay, so having him in control of all facets makes me hopeful for THIS installment of the DCCU.  More below from Coming Soon. Trailer Time: Suicide Squad Trailer #3 (2016) *Third Time the Charm for DC?*

Oh, DC.  Sigh, you’re getting a bit of a reality check this year so far, aren’t you?  You’re rebooting your comic universe (shhh no words, you’re rebooting it again no matter what you call it) for the second time in five years, and your grim and gritty review-proof Batman vs. Superman just got knocked out of first place at the box office by a Melissa McCarthy (BADLY REVIEWED) comedy in its third weekend.  What made grim and gritty work so well in Chris Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy was that it was written and directed by CHRIS NOLAN.  Now your third film in the DCCU – Suicide Squad – set between Man of Steel and Batman vs. Superman, has a ton of undue pressure on it and you’ve sent it back for major reshoots to lighten the tone.  Of a movie called SUICIDE Squad.  WB cannot leave things alone, cannot stop corporate tinkering.  They’re the anti-Disney.  They will not be able to make this thing work without doing what they’ll never do: hire someone to run it.  The closest thing they have to that is Zach Snyder and he’s a large part of the reason you’re in the mess you’re in….but you haven’t fired him yet.  It’d be funny if these weren’t great characters deserving of the kind of treatment they get on The CW in the three series there which have been DCU’s greatest successes outside of TDK.

Margot Robbie, Suicide Squad, Harley Quinn

How much of the reshooting the new trailer reflects, who knows?  It does feature a lot more on Joker and Batman to complement Harley, who was carrying the marketing pretty nicely on her own.  I liked Ben Affleck as Batman, so his inclusion doesn’t bother me.  Heck I liked Henry Cavill as Superman.  The problem was Zach Snyder and David Goyer’s script for BvS, not the cast (except Jesse Eisenberg, who I better never see again in a comic book movie).  Will the tinkering ruin the aesthetic that David Ayer’s film had going that had fans so excited?  We’ll have to wait until August to find out, but if WB ruins this one, their films are just going to become noise that hurts the whole genre.  For what it’s worth, this is my least favorite of the trailers for the film.

Joker, Jared Leto, Suicide Squad

It feels good to be bad…Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?

The movie hits theaters on August 5, 2016.

Trailer Time: Suicide Squad International Trailer #1 (2016) *Next Up in the DC Cinematic Universe*

You may have noted that I haven’t posted a review of Batman vs. Superman yet.  That would be because I’m so dreading having to go see it at this point that I am trying to find an angle that motivates me to go to a theater to see a movie I’ve heard nothing positive about from anyone I trust.

What I am still looking forward to is DCCU Film #3: David Ayer’s Suicide Squad.  New international trailer today with a ton of new footage set to the film’s unofficial theme: Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody”.  I promise I’ll make myself walk the long dark journey of BvS sometime this week.  I know it knocked it out of the park opening weekend.  What I’m going to be very interested to see is the second week’s gross and if the film really is review-proof.

POLL RESULTS: Batman vs. Superman – Who’s KT Rooting For?

If this was a prize fight, I’d have stopped it halfway into the first week of voting.  I actually had to check and make sure the poll was working because it was 100 – 0 for the Bat.  Some Superfans came along and tried to turn the tide, but Killing Time IS A BATMAN SITE!  No matter how we feel about Batman vs. Superman, we side with The Dark Knight.  The Big Blue Boy Scout can fly away home now.  Go on….scat…..no one’s crying for you, alien.

POLL: Batman vs. Superman – Pick Your Side

March’s biggest film is undoubtedly the long-awaited showdown between Batman and Superman, when Zach Snyder’s Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice finally opens on March 25th.  Who do you think wins in a straight-up fight?  The Man of Steel?  The Dark Knight?  Cast your vote and we’ll reveal who KT readers think will come out on top the day before the film opens.
