My Favorite Scene: Arrow Season One “Arrow vs. The Dark Archer” *SPOILERS*

If you are a fan of DC Comics at all, I urge you to pick up the first season of Arrow, binge watch it this weekend and then be ready to go when the series returns next week.  There are so many cool moments throughout the first season.  I love the relationship building between Ollie and Deathstroke.  I love how scarred and battered he is; the Nolan-esque take on making a realistic yet still fantastic DCU.  The big bad in the first season is The Dark Archer and after kicking Oliver’s tail several times, they fight during the season finale with everything on the line.  This fight, like all Arrow fights are unique to any on TV.  They’re visceral and very fast.  You think a guy with a bow and arrow only has so many options even if he’s a good martial artist, but they build an improvisational style for Ollie that uses the environment and his bow as a staff in close-quarters as well as an array of flechettes and knives.  Green Arrow was always my second favorite character in DC behind Batman; mostly because they’re just guys who pushed themselves to be sueprhuman through will…..and billions of dollars….BUT WILL!  Arrow season two premieres next week and you won’t want to miss it.

Trailer Time: The Secret Life of Walter Mitty Trailer #2 (2013)

When I saw Gravity this weekend, I felt like I got almost my money’s worth in the trailers alone and my favorite was this second trailer for Ben Stiller‘s adaptation of the James Thurber story The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.  The first trailer was great, but this one gives you a better feel for the atmosphere and direction Stiller (who is also directing) is going to take the film.  I’m onboard.  I cannot wait to see this when it opens Christmas Day.

Six of the Best Lord of the Rings Prints…EVER; by Marko Manev

As a devout Tolkienite, I have my favorite artists’ intepretations of Middle Earth.  John Howe and Alan Lee were always my favorite and, fortunately enough, they were Peter Jackson’s too and they’ve worked on all the Middle Earth films making the images in my head not too dissimilar from those I’ve seen onscreen.

Marko Manev needs to keep working in this area, because he could join my favorites.  These six images were a series he created for the Hero Complex Gallery’s art show in LA called “Young Guns of Print”.

If I had the disposable income, I’d be ordering prints.  If you do, I envy you, and here’s how you could go about getting a set:

The posters come from Collider, and they go on sale tomorrow (10/4/13) at 9am PST on the Hero Complex Gallery website. You can pick up a set for $100. Each print measures 12”x24” and is 5 colors screenprinted by D&L.

“Each print has a glow in the dark layer.  There is one print for each of the three movies with the main art focusing on our heroes, while the GID layer is all about the bad guys.  The size is perfect for hanging all three together and I really like the color choice for each movie.”
