  1. This will remain the best film of the year. When the director of a movie (or directors, as the case may be) is talented and has a single-minded vision that is squarely and firmly in the commercial realm, and a studio gets behind that director 100%, this is the kind of movie you wind up with. It doesn’t have any pretensions, it doesn’t stick its neck out too much, it’s just really, really good.

    1. Only The Hobbit if it can fix the problems it created with the EE of Desolation, could dislodge it to my mind. Maybe Interstellar. It’s probably the second best comic movie I’ve ever seen.

      1. I wouldn’t be holding out any hope at all for Maleficent. With each new piece of information I hear, the worse it gets. Jolie is supposed to be great in the role, or at least as great as an actress can be playing a scorned woman who briefly overreacts to being scorned.

      2. OK, just a heads-up. I’m sure you’ve done your own reading on this subject, but it turns out that what happens to Maleficent is actually quite a bit worse than just being dumped by her boyfriend. I’m still not holding out much hope, though. She’s evil for one scene, and she doesn’t even curse Aurora to die anymore, it’s a deathlike sleep from the start.
