Andy Serkis, Star Wars Episode VII

Another bit of mystery surrounding Star Wars Episode VII has been revealed as today Lucasfilm released the name and a mo-cap image of Andy Serkis on the Episode VII set.  Serkis will be playing a character called “Supreme Leader Snoke”, and no one called “Supreme Leader” is ever a good guy.  Is this guy in the remnants of the Emprire?  Is this who Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) answers to?  December 18, 2015, still seems like a long, long ways away.  Further details from Coming Soon below.

Following the new character images that debuted earlier this month, Lucasfilm has revealed an all-new image of actor Andy Serkis in motion-capture gear and revealed that his Star Wars: The Force Awakens character will be called “Supreme Leader Snoke.” Check out the image in the gallery below!

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi, and features a new generation of swashbuckling heroes and shadowy villains, as well as the return of fan-favorite smugglers, princesses, and Jedi.

Starring Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker as their characters from the original trilogy, “The Force Awakens” also stars John Boyega as Finn, Daisy Ridley as Rey, Adam Driver as Kylo Ren, Oscar Isaac Poe Dameron, Lupita Nyong’o as Maz Kanata, and Gwendoline Christie as Captain Phasma. Also starring, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Crystal Clarke, Pip Anderson, Christina Chong and Miltos Yerolemou, the J.J. Abrams-directed film will debut in theaters on December 18, 2015.

  1. The plot will be kicked off by the discovery of Luke’s saber, whether it tumbles out of the sky or not. The saber will serve the same purpose as the Death Star plans in ANH. The bad guys (who have been trying to find Luke for years) will come looking for the saber, and there will be a fire, and also deaths, and Rey, guided by Von Sydow’s character, will decide to deliver the saber to Luke. Han and Chewie will have a similar function as the one they had in ANH… Rey (and possibly Von Sydow) will enlist Han and Chewie to take them to wherever Luke is. There will be some trouble as they try to leave Jakku… at one point BB-8 will stealthily transport the saber inside himself (that’s why the shot of him from the first teaser looks so urgent). Also, at this point in the movie Han and Chewie will look for a quick means of transportation off Jakku, and they will stumble upon the Falcon by chance and immediatley “borrow” it to get themselves and the others off of Jakku. Then they will find Luke, who has been in self-imposed exile for the past thirty years, and there will be a point where Luke has to be convinced to rejoin the galactic battle, much like Yoda has to be convinced in Empire. Leia will not be in the movie much. She will be leader/politician, and will appear in two or three scenes. Rey is the daughter of Han and Leia, Kylo Ren is the son of Luke. Luke is comforting R2 in that one shot… the fire is a faithful-to-the-end 3PO being cremated (if it can be called that with a driod) and BB-8 steps in to be R2’s new friend. And there will be a super weapon that drives the plot, something along the lines of the Death Star, but much, much bigger.

Of course I don’t know any of this, but it will be fun to see if I got anything right at all. I notice that yesterday I was talking about Hot Pockets for some reason. Please forgive, it’s chaos time in my personal universe.

    1. They are so not going to kill Threepio in the same movie you know damn well they’re going to kill Han lol and personal chaos is what everyone who hangs out here is all about. I would have starved if not for the glorious invention that is the pocket of hot.

      1. Han will go out in a blaze of glory, maybe along with the Falcon during the final battle, which will echo the battles of Yavin/Endor. If Threepio goes, it will be early on, maybe in the first scene with Luke. A quiet moment that will lend the film some emotional heft, and also some credibility, because we all know Abrams is going to keep the film mostly safe. Threepio and Artoo have been with Luke for the past thirty years in exile, and Threepio just conks out. You realize I’m mostly playing the devil’s advocate here, but that moment from the trailer is just about as fraught with emotion as a moment with no human faces can be.

By the way… I had a conversation with a non-fan the other day (not a hater, just someone who isn’t passionate) and he told me that he hopes the Force Awakens begins the same way ANH began back in 77, with an enormous ship zooming overhead. And it kind of stunned me, because he’s the type of person I would have thought would have wanted something new. We all complain about a lack of new ideas in Hollywood, but most people want some measure of nostalgia.

      2. But now that I’ve floated the idea I look like a prophet if it happens.

The only way they recapture the wonder of ANH in 77 is if things tilt back to practical effects. I used to wonder how really good special effects were created, and I never wanted to know. These days the answer is generally “by a computer.” The technology we have right now might never be improved upon. It’s high time for Hollywood to round up the Brian Frouds, the Ralph McQuarries, and value their visual imaginations more than the CGI.

  2. I bought my copy of Vanity Fair at the local corner liquor store… I noticed it on the way out, stopped and threw it on the counter to pay for it. I felt like I was buying porn LOL I nearly asked for a brown paper bag…

(Fortunately the dude was a fan too. He understood LOL)
