  1. Focus on two things: the police procedural side of the show, and the gangster melodrama side. Make Penguin the primary classic antagonist (each season of the show will focus on the rise of a different villain, but Penguin first). Also, add more Penguin.

The investigation into the Wayne murders is the story arc that ties together the entire series. Include as much of Bruce and Alfred as possible, because those two are transcendent. But (and this is not meant as a dig against the young actress playing the part), young Catwoman has to go. Also we don’t know what anyone was thinking when it came to Barbara, but she is going to torpedo the show, so she needs to be written and cast differently, or written out completely. And while the purpose of Fish Mooney is obviously to be replaced by the classic villains, any character could have fit that bill. That hypothetical character should be given an intimate link to one of the classic villains, and I don’t mean a feud, I mean a relationship that is deep and provides insight into the psychology of the villain in a deep and meaningful way.

Whatever else is done, save Joker for the later seasons.

(From a note I sent back in a time to the beginning of last year.)

    1. I totally agree. I actually liked Selina and the actress who played her until she broke bad at the end of the season. Barbara….I don’t know what the hell is going on with that character, but let’s just toss out that Jim marries her and stick with revisionist Leslie Thompkins as a love interest. She’s awful. The actor playing Jerome/Joker is so good, I’d love to see him established in an escalating role up to the point where he’s The Red Hood because unless this show runs like Bonanza, we’re never getting to the point where he’s the Joker and Bruce puts on the suit. I love the very different Alfred. The actor playing Bruce is fantastic. You totally see the seeds of Batman already in him. Robin Lord Taylor is the breakout, no doubt, but smartly including other villains like Zszaz and maybe giving ones already there that have served absolutely no purpose (Ivy) could make this season what I hoped last season would be, and let’s be clear, this is not at all a bad show. I’m just a Batman freak and it could be so much better.
