Most of the Avengers survived the Age of Ultron, but another threat has been lingering in the Marvel universe since the end of 2012’s The Avengers, and he’s prepared to handle it himself. Last year, when Marvel Studios announced their full slate of films, which has since been shaken up to include 2017’s Spider-Man, a quick promotional teaser showed the mad titan himself, Thanos, with a complete infinity gauntlet to announce Avengers: Infinity War. Now, a high-res version of the image (via CBM) has debuted online, and is set to be included in a featurette for the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron Blu-ray. Check it out below and pre-order your own copy of the release by clicking here.

“It’s Thanos against everyone,” star Josh Brolin told us about the “Phase Three” capper late last year, which is believed to involve the Mad Titan’s quest to bring together the six Infinity Stones we’ve seen appear throughout the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely will pen the scripts for the two-part feature which will also see Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War directors Anthony and Joe Russo returning. Both parts of the film will be filmed entirely in IMAX.

“The intent with the Infinity War films is to bring ten years of accumulative storytelling to an incredible climax,” Joe and Anthony Russo previously said. “We felt that the best way to exploit the scale and scope required to close out the final chapter of these three phases, was to be the first films shot entirely on the IMAX/ARRI Digital camera.”

Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 is slated for release in theaters on May 4, 2018; Part 2will open on May 3, 2019.

  1. I don’t know if you’ve heard, but the next Transformers movie is partly going to be about Optimus Prime traveling into outer space and ultimately meeting Unicron… during a quest to locate the Quintessons.

Now the synopsis doesn’t say he actually finds the Quintessons, and maybe they’re being saved for yet another later installment.

But it’s about time. I’m not sure how involved Bay is with the franchise going forward, but if this was his idea, way to rope in people 5 times.

Also I don’t know if you’ve heard, but Hateful 8 will be QT’s last movie, according to him. He’s actually leaving on a high note, or at least most film buffs seem to think so (I am out of step with them, and quite possibly way off. The more I live, the less I know). All I can say is, hats off to QT. No one ever does this, ever. He can always change his mind, but right now he’s gone up ten notches in my estimation.

    1. He’s not going to quit. He was all set to never make that movie in the first place because the script leaked and he threw a tantrum. He’ll take time off and come back. T5 will have dual storylines and yes, that’s Prime’s. The writing braintrust they put together for these movies going forward, including Walking Dead writer Robert Kirkman, is the only hope things could get better. As long as Bay is involved in any capacity, there’s no hope for improvement. I know you don’t play video games, but check out the trailer for next month’s Transformers: Generations. It’s all done in G1 animated style with all the voices still alive from the original cartoon……wasn’t this a post about Thanos? Go Thanos!

      1. Sorry. Yes, Thanos is going to rule. I know we’ve only had a glimpse so far, but Josh Brolin is one of my favorite actors and after Spader’s turn as Ultron I’m hopeful there’s going to be a new trend of cool MCU villains. I think they downplayed the villains in the past because they wanted to differentiate themselves from other superhero movies, where the villains were always the real stars. Now that we know the heroes come first though, it’s time for some serious threats.

Honestly, between the Russos making not one, but three Phase 3 releases, the good doctor’s impending debut, and Guardians 2, I couldn’t be more hopeful. Ant-Man was a fun palate cleanser but it was almost nothing but well-worn tropes, and the films I’m most anticipating in the near future are the ones that are going to break new ground.

Sorry for the non-sequiturs, BTW. I should look to you for news instead of vice versa because your finger is on the pulse. In the past I’ve heard QT say he planned to retire at some point so he didn’t turn into a parody of himself like so many others. I know he’s mercurial, and, let’s face it, pretty nuts, but from the way he talks about the downhill career trajectories of other directors, I thought there was a chance he had enough self-awareness to follow his own advice.

  2. I just watched that trailer for that Transformers game that’s coming out. Stuff like this is going to make a gamer out of me. Those Batman Arkham games look great as well, way better than any of the Batman movies, even Nolan’s. Unless I’m very much mistaken, the makers of these games seem to understand the properties better than Hollywood.

    1. I’ve played them all and I can tell you they are cinema quality games that take the Bruce Timm (who wrote the first two) Paul Dini animated series to a mature level and brilliantly involve Batman’s entire history and rogues gallery in brilliant ways. Video games have become an absolute art form equal to any medium.
