Each Thursday we look at what is going to be coming out in theaters this weekend, show you the trailers for the big releases, predict the box office winner and just generally give you enough of a carrot to pull you through the rest of the work week.  May 12th is another sacrificial lamb week.  No one wants to take on the money printing juggernaut that is Marvel/Disney’s Captain America: Civil War.  The highest profile film, George Clooney’s Money Makers, had not been released to critics at the time of this writing, which is not a good sign at all.  A number of smaller films are opening, some with great reviews, so your best option, if you’re not seeing Civil War again, is to try one of them. Trailer Time: Assassin’s Creed Trailer #1 (2016) *We Work In The Dark To Serve The Light*

Assassin’s Creed is my favorite video game franchise.  The video game and movie industry have a long history of not working and playing well with others.  If this film doesn’t break the curse, nothing will.  Essentially the entire team from last year’s phenomenal Macbeth adaptation (including stars Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard, director Justin Hurzel and cinematographer Adam Arkapaw) is returning to bring this thing to life.  You have a good director, a fantastic cinematographer, and Oscar-caliber leads.  This is the best chance a video game adaptation has ever had, and Fassbender in interviews has been extremely enthusiastic about it.  Read below for Coming Soon’s summary.  Assassin’s Creed opens at Christmas, where it will have to deal with the force that is Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (I hate typing that title).
